Re: My Dad's McDonald's commercial circa 1978
The gold boat belonged to my Dad's friend Jim, the other guy in the commercial. He and Jim did a lot of fishing together and both bought Gregor Aluminum boats to run around the smaller lakes for Bass fishing. Dad's boat was green and the producers decided to use the gold color one. Dad & jim had taken the producers, camera guys, and a couple other McDonalds folks out fishing over the weekend up on Lake Shasta then came in and shot the commercial. I think everyone had a lot of fun that trip.

Very cool! Just curious if you know or not, but did your Dad and Jim get paid for that commercial?

Yeah, they were paid and then received small amounts through the year or two as it was played. Jim received a bigger cut since it was his boat.

I too remember that bit. I was like 12 and I liked the good natured natural feel to it. Ironic that it was pretty much ad lib. RIP to your Pops.
BTW someone posted that it is thier GF in the video. |

Yeah, once I found the video I told my Sisters about it and they've shown it to their kids as well. All my nieces and nephews think it's pretty cool to finally "meet" their Grandfather.
