Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
Well like the title says I am looking for contest ideas. I recently won a contest on a pipe forum and received a sample of Park Lane Knights Bridge pipe tobacco. Lord knows I have enough pipe tobacco and I have really only picked up my pipes 2 times since summer began.
Because of this I am going to hold a contest where the winner will get this sample of pipe tobacco (an english blend) plus a few other small samples (probably of Zander Greg Z-120 and then a burley or Virginia) a pipe, and a pipe tool. I will choose the pipe at the start of the actual contest. I am thinning my heard so I don't know what will be left but trust that it will be a good smoker. This contest is open to anyone but is especially geared toward those who have never tried a pipe or are just starting. Of course if a veteran pipe smoker wins they may choose to have the whole package or take just the pipe tobacco and tool and gift the pipe to someone (I will send the pipe to whoever if they so choose). Anyways, sorry to ramble on. This thread is not the actual contest but just to help me brain storm contest ideas. It needs to be something that everyone can participate in that is fun and easy. So, any ideas? |

hmm make sure you let me know when you get it figured out. I used to have a pipe and started smoking and loved it until after about a month I sat on my pipe and broke it in half. Haven't really thought about going back until now.
I like the craziest pic of you smoking idea, maybe with a little tweaking? Of course the troops would be the best idea

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
Would there be interest if I did one like this? It is from a pipe forum.
*Edited for clarity* Burma Shave Jingle Contest. Burma Shave had ads back in the 60s, I believe it was the 60s, that were little jingles. The contest would be to create your own jingle. The following rules would apply: 1) Must be about pipe smoking or name a CA member 2) No dirty stuff 3. Must follow the Burma Shave model (keep it to two lines of prose) Go here for examples: http://burma-shave.org/ 3) After a week there will be nominations to be added to a poll in which the people decide who wins by voting. There will be one winner. Here is an example: Does your husband Have the disease Pipe gods Must He please? Also, this is going to be a CA contest and subsequently the troops will not be receiving these prize winnings unless the winner specifically states for them to go to the sandbox instead. I am not anti-supporting the troops and actually just sent some stuff their way. I just want this to be a contest for the guys here especially those who are new to pipe smoking or have not tried it yet. Last edited by Tyler; 08-10-2011 at 02:05 PM. |

Haha well it is a Jingle contest. Did you look at the website that is linked? It helps explain it. Basically Burma Shave had ads back in the 60s, I believe it was the 60s, that were little jingles. The contest would be to create your own jingle about anything having to do with pipe smoking or any member here on the forum.

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
How about running an 'explain game' ?
You come up with a short statement, and the entries are allowed one guess per day of a question that can be answered either yes, no, or irrelevant. The first one to pm you with the correct answer wins. An example would be " Had it not been for the light, Miguel may have lived." Typical questions would be, is Miguel human?, is Miguel an animal?, did Miguel die quickly?,... all questions that are answered with a yes, no or irrelevant. I'll pm you the answer and it will become clear....

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
Hopefully it does! I know that for me it took alot of researching on how to pack/light/smoke effectively before I started to enjoy pipe smoking. Before I got tongue bite every time and my packing was bad so it never stayed lit. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did starting out.

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
Well the easiest way to describe tongue bite is like when you burn your tongue on something hot, like coffee or tea. It is from smoking too fast and the tobacco being so hot that the steam/smoke burns our tongue and you are left not being able to really taste anything. It is not good. I have only had a problem on cased tobaccos or ones with PG solution or smoking Virginias too quickly.

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
Well I have not decided on what the contest is going to be yet. This thread is just to run through ideas and to judge general interest in a contest.

Re: Contest Ideas To Win Pipe Kit
I'm down for the jingle thing.
I have recently become interested in pipes because of this forum, so winning this contest will just be another push down a long steep slope. |
