Corrosion on Brass Hinges
I opened my humidor the other day to find some corrosion on one of the brass hinges. Has anybody had this issue before? What can I do to fix it? I rubbed it with a soft cloth, and a majority of it came off. I thought about using brasso, but I don't want it to make the humidor smell. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Corrosion on Brass Hinges
As a sailor type, I have spent a few hours of my life polishing brass. Brasso is good, but IMO Never Dull is better.

The only reason I keep Brasso around is because I use it to lap ipods. Brasso will take the scratches out of both the metal and plastic. Works wonders.

Yes - take the hinge off before cleaning. I prefer Blue Magic Metal Polish - found at most auto parts stores I guess. A small bottle (also comes as a paste) lasts forever it seems. After you clean/polish it, either use a spray lacquer (for brass) to seal it or I use Renaissance wax polish which is excellent on everything. Ron |
