Default Cigar Punch Cutter - Several Questions:

Which is the best buy?

Which is the best, without consideration of cost?

Do they come in different sizes (diameters) or is there one generic size?

What do you use?

Got this one - Xikar Wolf Double Punch

It's on my keychain and goes with me. Works very well. Double sided - big for 50+, small for coronas, etc. Still have to clip the small panatellas. Neo magnet in head holds it all together. Amazon for $15, retails around $30-$35. Nothing but praises.

I got a Xikar 007. Its ok but I prefer a "no-name" retractable punch I got from TinderBox. It was half the cast and seems to cut better and smother.
BUT, I had an issue with the Xikar and it was fixed free in a few weeks.
Xikar = lifetime warranty.

The Bugatti Lighter has two different punch sizes. I use it alot, becasue of the "all in one" design. But the tinderbox one works the best for me.

Xikar 009. I don't like those unscrewable kind of punches. The 009 pulls out and pushes back in, very simple and effective.

If I had a choice a 007 or a 009, The 009 would be my choice from Xikar punches. Just because of the push/pull fact. Thats why I sent my 007 back; it would unscrew about 1/2 way and get stuck.
The shop didn't have a 009 when I bought the 007 and it was cheaper than anywhere online (at an event).

The 009 is a slick instrument, 9mm may be too big for Coronas and such though but I like to cut those off anyhow

I have a generic, rubberized, retractable punch that I like, but I still use a cutter sometimes. It depends on the vitola.

Default Re: Cigar Punch Cutter - Several Questions:

I've had lots of punches, including ones on my lighters. I can say that any of them worked just fine. Some would get the wad stuck in them and had to wait for the next cigar to get it pushed out, I don't like that so much, but it didn't harm how well they worked.
Some were great big clunkity, heavy things that I thought was nonsensical for such a simple tool. Some were a bit big for real small rg cigars, Albert already mentioned that.
Based on the non-existant difference I found between cheap ones and inexpensive ones, I'd suggest you just find one that turns you on and go with that. I really don't think you can miss.
Good Luck!!!

Lots of good information so far.

My thinking is that I want something with a large punch, to use on the larger ring cigars. I'll probably just use a Palio Cutter on most cigars up to 46/48 ring gauge, but I really don't care to full cut the larger ring gauges 50 on up to 54, which is the largest I care to smoke, at least not to start with, unless there is a problem with the draw.

Then the 009 is a great tool to own. I just got mine and it is perfect for bigger cigars. Used it on a PSD4 and it cut over half the cap out. When I get home I'll snap some pics.

Thanks for the pics., that looks just about right. I'll probably pick one up. I guess eBay is the cheapest way to go but I'm not sure!
