Clay Pipes
I saw some youtube videos of people smoking clay pipes, and I proceeded to watch a video of some old euro-guy making them. So now I want one.
I've read that they're cheap, but the problem is that I can't seem to find them anywhere. I don't have any local B&Ms, so I would have to buy online. If anyone has bought a clay pipe online, I'd be really interested in some pointers. Thanks. |

Re: Clay Pipes
The only thing I've heard is that clays get VERY hot in the smoking.
They don't seem to have much of a following; very few pipers posting about them. Both smokingpipes and The Piperack have some very knowledgeable pipe people on staff, Tony at smokingpipes, Michael Lindner (also makes fine briar pipes, but pricy) at The Piperack |

Re: Clay Pipes
Like alfredo said, clay pipes can get hot (at least the bowls) which is why you hold them by the stem. They are also very fragile, so be careful where you store it and don't handle them too roughly.
The clay pipes (especially the churchwarden) smoke really cool. I'd recommend it!

Re: Clay Pipes
Price-wise, you can do alot better than Pipes and Cigars. If it's something you just wanting to try out, give ebay a shot. A search for clays in the tobacciana category turned up four pages of results at pretty good prices. Not a bunch of crap from China either, good Dutch and German made clays. Clays still have their place, you just have to be careful with them.
