Default This stinks!

It really stinks, to know that the company I work for which has been in business since 1861, and was one of the few companies in this country that was hiring people during the great depression. Has been forced over the last 2 1/2 years to lay people off. Due mostly in part to taxes! This is in no means a political rant, it just frustrates me to know that alot of good people are losing there jobs. And in our case here, its union so the layoff is based on your number not you as a person. Just found out today that three more mechanics will
Be going out the door real soon. And that puts me a little closer to the door. I really feel for those who have lost there jobs in this country, and pray that something will give soon. Sorry for all my babbling, have a nice day!

This is the hardest part of layoffs IMO. No unions involved at my job but the layoffs are still heartbreakingly arbitrary. Some VP somewhere who I'll never see and who has no idea who I am draws a line through a row on a spreadsheet and because that's not the row that represents my job category I keep my job today. But tomorrow it could easily be me. And nothing I've done - no seniority, no accomplishments, no amount of hard work will have anything to do with the decision about whether to keep me or let me go. That's hard to deal with.

Hence my career change to nursing. Even in today's economy, I have yet to hear of nurses hitting the unemployment ranks.

Never mind my performance reviews or anything...I was costing too much money, thus I was expendable.

Sorry to hear that Bob. My wife was unemployed for a year and a half and she just got a job a week ago. It isn't paying what she used to make and she is having to drive a lot farther to get there than her last job, but a job is a job nowadays, and I am thankful for it.

Everything happens for a reason brother. I got laid off last year and now I have a job that I love, compared to the job I really liked, but couldn't stand in so many ways.
