Well, looks like the good advice was given, so I figured I would at least add my "GOOD LUCK!!" as well.

Re: Job Interview Today!
Darrell,
Good luck. I don't think one can ever look over dressed for a job interview. You only get one chance to make a first impression and why not make it the best possible. Relax during the interview. Get friends to do a mock interview and surprise you with questions. Be prepared for the often asked, "what is your worse quality/trait". Most screw that up. Turn a negative to a positive. Tell them your worst trait is you seek perfection and recognize not all things will be perfect but you can have a blast trying. Speak of experiences where you have shined. Good luck!!! Whatever you do, don't mention your "meat packing" days.

Re: Job Interview Today!
Thanks guys. I just got back.
2 other guys went before me and they were in and out in like 5 minutes. I sat there for over 40 answering questions and asking them. |

Re: Job Interview Today!
I hope so. All I know is I felt grossly over dressed.
Although the manager walked up, shook my hand and said "Damn, looking sharp!" The two guys before me were dressed for success as well, just not success outside of slinging crack on the corner. Candidate #1 wore a flannel shirt that was a little short with some torn up jeans. Candidate #2 wore a black tee and some blue jeans that were rolled under like some kinda Mexican gang banger. |

---------------------------------- I agree with this, because although the SUIT has not gone out of style for interviews, it is not always necessary or appropriate for all job types, or rather it could be said that in some job types, the interviewer would not be inclined to use that against you provided you wore slacks, a dress shirt and a tie. However, IF YOU LOOK GOOD in a suit, there is no harm in wearing one. I don't. At least not at my current weight. I say keep good eye contact and I agree with small talk, sometimes it is a trap, do not go casual yourself. Sir and Ma'am, never 'yeah' and if you find yourself stuck for a work, 'uh' is a killer. Simply slow down or stop and compose yourself. If 'uh' or 'you know' and the new death word, 'like' pop up in your conversation, you should slow way down and think about what you are doing. It is called in the speech biz a 'verbalized pause', and that's what it is, a pause. So instead of verbalizing it, just pause. The eternity in your head is actually a very short time, lol. |

And they were the ones who were in and out in 5 minutes.
You may have felt over-dressed but it demonstrated to them that you were serious about the opportunity and cared enough to look your best. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Job Interview Today!
Skip the tie. It's overkill, I've been 100% at job interviews 7/7. I ALWAYS wear slip on dress shoes, my nicest jeans and a button up shirt untucked. Comb your hair, shave and success. Overdressing will show that you're desperate and have no confidence. If you smoke, DON'T before hand. Once they hire you, they won't care but at the interview it's off putting.
Seems you overdressed, Ah well. Good luck anyways man! |

Re: Job Interview Today!
After you get hired, you should grow the King Leonidas type beard from 300.
Whole Foods is like Publix, but organic. Seeing as they get a lot of applicants, and they also scout for potential growth, dressing professionally probably is in your favor. But also, seeing as you're former Armed Forces, they'd be jerks not to hire you. If I were hiring and I had to choose between two sloppy dudes and a someone well dressed who also was in the Air Force... uh yea.

Re: Job Interview Today!
Right, so would it be sloppy dude #1 with the flannel shirt or sloppy dude #2 with the gangbanger jeans?

Well done, D!
Sounds like you made a favorable impression... 40 minutes after the other two guys sounds like you impressed them. Hope it goes well from here forward. I know they will be getting a hard worker. Want to use me for a reference?

Re: Job Interview Today!
Anything under $15 an hour and I'm not wearing a tie. At a certain point overdressing does show desperation and lack of confidence...say you apply at mcdonalds......yeah....walmart...yep. Certain jobs all you need to do is walk in dressed decently and be very confident. This has been my case every time. Of course I'm 24 and haven't applied for any job over $30,000 a year.
