Default Flavored Cigars

Hello everyone. I am curious about these so called flavored cigars. I am thinking that they are a novelty item and not something that many seasoned cigar lovers enjoy. I see that CAO makes some and also there are bourbon and whiskey flavored ones. I am thinking that for something different every now and then a cherry cigar or a Jack Daniels cigar might be interesting.

Most are absolute garbage. The only ones that I have enjoyed have been the Acid lineup from Drew Estate.

CAO is one of the few manufactures that infuse their cigars thru fume method, verses soaking the tobacco in a solution. This keeps the smokes from having bitter aftertastes that many flavored sticks have. I actually enjoy the Moontrances. Infusion method seems to give the CAO's a more subtle flavor, IMO. Tried several Acids. Never really enjoyed them. Personal preference.

There is nothing wrong with flavored cigars.

Some like them and some don't. Some are snobbish about them being beneath recognition. Not sure that I agree with that last sentiment, but it is true that you can use a very low grade leaf if you intend to cover the tobacco flavor with something else.

You may like them, you may not. I suspect that more smoke them here than care to admit, just because of peer pressure.

It isn't about smoking the best for someone else's measure, it is about smoking what you like. Go forth and explore - you'll know more than many others that way.

Whatever you do, do not put the flavored cigars into the same humidor as your non-flavored cigars.

Unless of course, you love it and want them all to smell/taste like em.

IMO whether it's a CAO, Acid or other Drew Estates flavored they are the same as a Sour Apple Phillie's Blunt. Cheap nasty tasting tobacco covered up with flavorings.

Most are pretty nasty... Dunkel is right about the cheaper tobacco, because why would you use good stuff when you're just gonna cover it up??

That being said I do enjoy a CAO Moontrance on occation with some coffee.

I'll mention that while Acids have a certain reputation, they are pretty popular with the troops.

Listen to these guys! If you're curious, you should try some. Like it's been said already, you may or may not like them, but it's worth a shot.

I've had a few and I can fully agree, they aren't very good. The flavors are very boring, it's like drinking a bud light instead of a good craft beer. One tastes like metal, corn and piss the other VERY flavorful.

That said I also think the CAO ones are just as bad as any other cheaper brand. Save yourself some coin try the nasty gas station ones. Never tried the ACIDS, if I need a separate humidor for them that's a no go for me.

If you're going to try the CAO Flavors I suggest the tins or the tubos, for all the other sizes, bitterness tends to take over as the flavor.

Likewise, ACID's are good if you like that herbalized infusion going on.

Although, I don't smoke them at all. Honestly, why not? One thing I would like to say is that aromatic pipe tobacco > flavored cigars.

Regular cigs are 6.75 a pack here

Recalling this thread, I grabbed an Isla Del Sol cigar out of the humi. It's a cigar by Drew Estate that is infused with who knows what. It's not bad so far. I just lit it a few minutes ago, so no review yet. All I know so far is that the taste on my lips is sweeter than the Dr. Pepper I'm drinking.

edit...ok, an inch into this thing and I can see where this is going. At a buck more a stick Fuente Curly Head Deluxes are much better. Without the "flavor" it is kinda harsh and doesn't really taste like much. It burns and draws well, but that is it. It's a cheap stick at 50 a box, but not very good. I'll be a trooper and finish it though

My best analogy for flavored cigars would be Starbucks coffee.

And I hate starbucks coffee! All flavor, no coffee. I'll get it black and it tastes like crap. Why, cause they burn the **** out of their beans because they buy the bottom of the barrel beans. Why, cause with all the bullshit they put in their, who would ever know?

Now if thats what you dig, smoke em Brother! I've had a handful of all the acids and a few otter flavored cigars. I'll try just about any smoke once or twice. Ive had some cigars infused with bourbon and found them to be much more enjoyable than the straight up flavored cigars.

All in all, it would be the last cigar I would reach for in just about every scenario. But thats just my pennies worth!

Mark is wise.
Most cigar smokers start out trying the flavored stuff and eventually move on to more traditional/non flavored cigars and leave the flavored cigars behind. Some seasoned smokers still like the occasional flavored cigar and God love em (I"m one of them) . If your friends give you hell for what you like to smoke, are they really friends? As a good friend of mine says "Smoke what you like, Like what you smoke". Thats all that truly matters!
