Death Is Waiting

So while getting inked today, I'm talking to a fellow BOTL and we get into the conversation of great sticks we can't find anymore. He tells me of the Original Cupidos, when the bands doubled as stickers.
Naturally I'm interested and searched all over for information and where abouts. Now I couldn't find them, yet but I came across some information stating thst the current La Carolina is indeed the same smoke. Does anyone have further information or possibly smoked both cigars and can validate these claims? Thanks,

Cuban Crafters brought these back. I can't speak to the similarity of the old vs. new blend as I haven't had the old in quite some time. The new is a pretty good smoke though. The band doesn't double as a sticker anymore though.

The thing is, there is a new Cupido but they say that's nothing like the old one. However, I hear that the La Carolina is the same as the old Cupido but with a different name. That's where it gets hairy.

I'm confused too. I think La Carolina originally replaced Cupido but it looks like its now being phased out, but I'm not sure how close it was to the original Cupido anyway. Cupido has been re-released in a criollo and a maduro and is replacing La Carolina, but doesn't really taste similar.

I have had the original Cupido back in cigar boom days and really enjoyed them. At the cigar shop I frequented at the time they were about $8. About three years ago I met up with a cigar shop owner who was big on cuban crafters and told me much of what I've read in the above posts. That the cupido blend is now the La Carolina. Well if that's correct from my experience smoking the La Carolina the quality has went 90 degrees south. Funny to me b/c much of the cigar boom sticks blew and I found that Cupido was one of the few sticks with the qualities I like to emerge. Well they may have emerged as another name but for me it's not at all what I was hoping to revisit. .02

Thanks Warren. That's pretty much what I'm looking for. Sounds like the La Carolina is either not the same as the old Cupido or not as good as the old Cupido. Either way it sounds like the good stuff is gone forever with no hope of returning.

Hey, if you get a chance, pick up a La Carolina and maybe you can do a comp smoke? Just a thought, don't go out of your way for it.

I have one of the old cupido, I never smoked it because it has a chunk of twine stuck in it.

They were supposed to have come out during the "boom.". Quality took a seat sometimes back then.
