Default Mystery Cigar?

A friend find this in a little shop, anybody seen or heard of it?

I've spoken with several industry people and they have never heard of it.

The extra banding looks a lot like the various other supposed "vintage" cigars that JR is slapping second bands on and pushing right now.

'99 is about when the Mac Robusts first came out.

Adam, you are right, it was first introduced at the 1998 RTDA show.

I didn't even think about the possibility of JR's....he picked it up in a little shop in PA.

It was some "special release" awile back. I've seen the Prince Phillip size like that. Macanudo Robust..a decent mild smoke.

Yeah, I dunno, it was just kind of the first thing that came to mind; how JR is selling cigars that are supposedly vintage, in many cases allegedly from the first year of release, where they have added a second band to or re-banded with a special primary band which now indicates the year.

I just looked at JR's vintage Mac list and currently there are no Robusts listed.

Offhand, I don't know or remember if they sold any vintage Mac Robusts in the past, and even if they didn't, it's possible that another vendor is copying the marketing.

Have you tried contacting General Cigar directly?

Was not aware of that, yes, he would be the one to know then.

I'm having a hard time determing if Bryan is saying that it was a JR release or something from General that went through normal channels to all vendors.

It was released by General. They were in boxes of 10. They were out 2001-02. They ran around $120 a box.
