Question about storage in a vino
Hey guys, I actually have two questions. Would appreciate your help:
1) is it ok to have a vino without any fans (like oust fans)? 2) can you pack the vino TOO much? Meaning, can it be packed too tight where there is no movement of air, and that can be a problem? My vino is packed pretty tight, the oust fans are jammed behind boxes, and just had me a little concerned. Wanted to get my fellow BOTL's input. Thanks in advance guys.

Re: Question about storage in a vino
FWIW that sounds like my Vino's as well. Jammed to the gills. Stale air is a problem, but I dont think that will be the case. I have just recently unplugged both of mine, but I open them every couple of days. So I think that the air exchange should prevent stale air from becoming a problem.

Re: Question about storage in a vino
I have mine packed to max capacity, and there has never been a problem. I have recently unpluged mine as well, and I don't plan on adding any fans. I usually open mine ever few days to dig a smoke out, so stale air isn't a problem. I would also like to know what the stale air would do to harm the smokes.

Stale air is what grandma's house smells like. Sometimes you get a box(mainly seems to happen to cardboard) that smells musty. Doesnt ruin the smoke but it takes a while to get rid of the mustiness once it gets into the cigar. I have my oust fans laying on top of my beads as there is no other place to put them.

Re: Question about storage in a vino
Among other things, I think the lack of air circulation has more to do with evening out the RH in the unit to make sure that all of the sticks are properly humidified.

I've always been interested in getting a vino. Where would you guys recommend one look for a vino at a decent price?

Unplugging as in the entire vino?.....What are your thoughts on that?....Is that common practice?

Re: Question about storage in a vino
This time of year the ambient temperature in your home should be comfortable - so why put the cigars through the extra stress of the cooling cycle and associated humidity swings?

Re: Question about storage in a vino
my vino is unplugged as my basement right now is about 60*. I also do not have any oust fans and I havent noticed any problems, as long as you open it every few days you should be fine.

Re: Question about storage in a vino
My main questions is how could you not open it every few days? These sticks are our babies and they need love and attention! I have to get in my humi just about every other day min. Why? Idk.. just because!

Re: Question about storage in a vino
I don't have fans in mine, but I do notice that my top and middle are rock solid 65rh and my bottom is almost 70rh. I do not ave Oust fans, but I am going to put in 2 PC fans inside which should help airflow (1-2 CFM Oust vs 20-30 computer fans).
No problem with it being jam packed as long as it's in a sealed environment where you don't have ups and downs in rh such as opening it every hour or so. |

As for Oust fans....where the heck do you plug 'em in, within the Vino? Is the fan that comes with the Vino not sufficient? |

I bought Oust fans a while ago but I don't use them in my Vino. The Vino fan runs enough here in hot SoCal that there is enough air circulation. I'm usually digging into it every couple days anyway so that helps. |

Re: Question about storage in a vino
To me, I would only be concerned if you have boxes right up against the Vino fan and block the air too much. This could possibly burn out the fan or the box could absorb any condensation. My Vino is packed incredibly tight but I always make sure there is a couple inches of space around the fan. I haven't noticed any problems (and as stated earlier, I don't use my Oust fans - mainly because they take up room that is better used for more boxes!)
