Though his character was also a stereotype, Father Mulcahy always seemed to me to be the most genuine, and the most likely to actually exist in real life. He was an underappreciated anchor of realism in a surrealistic world.

I should look him up to see just what all tv and movie roles he had. Before M*A*S*H he was a regular for some years on 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.' but beyond that, no clue.
