Re: a journey into pipe making......
What a great thread. You guys are inspirational. I would love to have a couple of the pipes you have made and shown off here. The one and only time I tried to make my own, I bought a lump of meerschaum and a short stem from Peterson's in Dublin. I roughly carved it till it looked like something dangerous to hit people with, then when my Churchwarden broke, I took the long stem and used that for it.

Re: a journey into pipe making......
I have seen pictures & a few videos of the Briar Cigar. I was looking to get one for a while until I started playing with making my own smokers. After I made my first pipe, I saw a guy's post where he made a cigar shaped pipe with a long flat stem. I don't like the pre-made flat look for the round cylinder shape so when I bought the briar blanks, I bought some rod stock too.
There is a lot of work in these things....more than I figured. I have been working on longer mouthpieces for a few more. I like the first one I made, but a mistake cut the length in half of what I wanted it to be. From the pictures I have seen, the Morgan Briar Cigar uses on "O" ring on the end cap to hold it in place. I ended up cutting threads in the end to give a little bite & snug it up. |

Re: a journey into pipe making......
Wow that is a very nice looking pipe congrats. And WOW looking at them Pipe tampers. Dang nice job. I made the mistake of letting someone that was a Wood carver take my Ok to me Briar tamper to do some carving to never get it back and just seen them a month ago asked about the tamper was told oh sorry haven't got to it and been really busy with his own life that he don't know where he put it now. So now I am using my Czech tool until I get another one. But wow yours looking awesome.

Re: a journey into pipe making......
Wow looking over this Thread WOW you have some awesome pipe making Skills.I keep telling my wife I want to try my had at making pipes. I knowI know don't ihave enough pipes yet? Well I think it would be a cool place to move my Hobby from the last 25 years of smoke cigars and Pipes. To be able to hand down some to my son and have him be able to say My dad made these... That is my thought anyway

Re: a journey into pipe making......
I gotta say, I like the looks of the puzzle pipe. That is an out of the box direction I never thought of myself...but might try. Have you smoked it yet? I'm curious if people come up to you asking questions.

Thanks! that one was raffled off for autism awareness, I do have a personal one that I will smoke every once in a while and some will ask others have told me that they just flat out don't like it. Ill have to see about posting some more pictures of recently finished pipes. I just got back from the CORPS pipe show in Richmond Va which was a lot of fun.
