Default A Serious Post about Drinking and Driving

Since the Christmas holidays are fast approaching, and you may be attending festivities where alcohol might be served, I would like to share an experience with you about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had some rather nice Sauvignon Blanc. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before - I took a cab home.

I arrived back safely and without incident, which was a real surprise since I had never driven a cab before, and I'm not sure where I got this one

I do find the humor in the post - it was under jokes, so knew something was coming. I did have a chuckle over it.

But... on a more serious note.

I have had to deal with both sides of this issue as a pastor.

1) Family members grieving over the loss of loved ones killed when in an accident with a drunk driver.
2) The guilt of the person who had a couple and killed and/or permanantly injured someone because he/she decided to get behind the wheel when someone else should have driven them home.

In both cases, the emotional and physical damage are permanent.

Be safe people!

Peace of the Lord be with you.

It was a joke, but this is a serious topic. Please don't drink and drive.

As they used to say, "The life you save, may be your own".

That's a good one , and one last PSA about drinking and driving, AAA offers a program called "Tow to Go" where they will take you and your car home for free during the holiday season. If you find yourself in a position where you need to use this call 1-800-AAA-HELP.

Here where I live there's a company metroscoot. Where you can make arrangements ahead of time, or even call them while you're out and if they can accommodate they will, but it's really interesting.

So the worst thing about driving out to a party or a bar and having too many and having to take a cab home is "How do I get my car back home?" Right?

Well, these guys have a solution and work in teams of two. One guy drives a car from their "base of operations" carrying the second guy with this little tiny fold up gas powered scooter.

So you make arrangements for them to meet you at said bar/party, and the one guy drops of the other guy with his scooter. He puts the scooter in your trunk and drives you and your car back to your house.

Then unfolds his little scooter and scoots his way back to their headquarters.

And it's only like $50 depending on how far they have to go. Which is really only about $15-20 more than a cab ride.

Here's another one. Two guys meet you where you are, one drives you home in your car, the other follows and takes him back to base.
