Whisky with its rich history has evolved from a simple beverage into an art. For better appreciation of the true Scotch whiskeys taste, such as Aberlour 18 YO, Chivas Regal 12 YO and etc, it is necessary to adhere to the drinking culture, enjoying every sip and taste. In fact drinking whiskey is a ritual which had been performed by brave Scots sitting by the fire, at rainy and cold nights many, many centuries ago. The art of tasting whisky is much simpler than you think. Strictly speaking, there is no rule about the best way whisky can be drunk. However, some tasting techniques can considerably enhance the pleasure of drinking a dram.

Personally, I enjoy drinking whisky out of a tulip shaped glass. I also enjoy my drams with a few drops of water in them to open up. You could pick up a few tulip shaped Glencairn glasses. They are inexpensive and do the job fairly well.

I collected single malt whiskeys for many years but really don't have an opinion on the right glass, since that is very subjective (I have many different styles that are supposedly the "perfect" whiskey tasting glass). As for other whiskeys, I drink many kinds but rarely make recommendations.
