Briar Polish
Can someone give the the heads-up on a good briar polish (e.g. a specific brand of wax, spray, etc.) or if you know something in particular I should AVOID, that could also be useful information. I've got a couple pipes that had a nice shine but are developing a more matte appearance. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Briar Polish
Just run of the mill carnauba wax is all I use. That and a buffing wheel. I have also heard that beeswax is another substitute. Maybe this article will help you http://www.chicagopipeshow.com/educa...rickDennis.pdf.

Re: Briar Polish
I haven't felt the need to use more than a soft cloth (hand towel) on any of my pipes... That said, I would opt for plain carnuba wax (link to ebay seller) if I was going to do anything.

Here's a good thread to peruse if you've not done so to date, as there is some good advice that has been mentioned here: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...t=polish+pipes Here's a link for some polishes and wipes that you may consider: http://www.pipesandcigars.com/cleanetc.html Finally, just a lite amount of olive oil may work for you too!

Re: Briar Polish
Thanks for the info guys, if I am to expand the question, would one of the "impregnated" cloths do the trick on its own, or would one be better off getting the wax & using a soft cloth? Both?
Also, Mark, I've been enjoying sifting through the "ask an old guy" thread, useful & amusing stuff in there! Thanks |

Re: Briar Polish
If you don't have access to a buffer, then check out the brands Paragon Wax & Halcyon II Wax. Halcyon for rusticated and sandblasted pipes, Paragon for smooth. Really nice products for people without a buffer on hand. Fine Pipes International and I think Iwan Ries now carry them. Good stuff!
