It has been some time since I picked up a block of briar and did some shaping. I just finished this one this evening. It was far from what I originally had planned for the block, but this is what I ended up with.

Thank you for the compliments, I like freehand designs so much because you allow your imagination and the grain on the briar let loose.

I saw a pre-bored block kit at my local B&M. I bought it on a whim, I made a teardrop shape and fell in love with carving wood. I am planning on creating several more as I have been inspired to not stop this time around. Posted via Mobile Device |

Hrmm, this has definitely intrigued me and I'm now researching on where to pick up the stuff to do this myself

I'd love to have a hand made pipe that I carved myself.Very beautiful work

After reading some about carving your own pipes, I'm curious, did you stain it then wax it or is that just the natural wood with some wax?

I'm mostly a cigar smoker, but I do smoke a pipe on occasion. I have to say that your pipe is about the most attractive briar I've ever seen.

Please let us know how you finished it and what the process you used to get the rusticated top done was. Now I have a project.
