Climbing out of the hole...
Well, I was recently part of a company "re-structuring" to save expenditures (aka...layoff). Actually, saw it coming and fortunately, was already sending out resumes. BTW - many thanks to Scott and Lisa for revising and updating my resume!
Anyway... Laid off Friday just before going to see my doctor. Great timing! That afternoon, I was fortunate to get a part-time weekend job, but still need to replace the full time income to keep wifey and kid happy. This morning, received a call from a good prospect and have an appointment to talk with them tomorrow AM. Called my wife and told her she's my guardian angel for all her help and support. I'm a very fortunate person, even if this doesn't gel. Been working since I was 15 , full time and on my own since 17. Not my style to collect unemployment. IMHO, that is for those that truly are in need and I've seen many who really do need the help. Think I read on here that the best way to get back on your feet is to get off your ass! Excellent advice and thanks for reminding me of that. Moral of the story is this; sh~t happens, life goes on, thank God and your wife for your blessings, work hard, play hard, have good ethics and always say thank you when it is appropriate to do so - costs nothing. Like Arnie says... "I'll be bock" RR |

You have a great attitude, Rob and that will hopefully shine through at your interview. Many would not recognize the role that family support plays in being successful and you are a role model that way.
Best of luck on the interview and hope that you get the position!

You've got the right attitude, Rob.
You'll be employed in no time.

Re: Climbing out of the hole...
See your lay off as an opportunity. Can hard to see it that way, but you have a chance to make more than you did and/or better title. You are entitled to Unemployment money, so there is no shame in taking it.
You sound like someone who knows how to land on your feet, so just put the time in each day looking for jobs and approach any opportunity from a position of power. Don't let your current employment state color your decision; at least not yet...

Re: Climbing out of the hole update.
Thanks to all the help received from friends, will be starting in a new position Monday morning with what looks to be a very promising, economically healthy company. A few opportunities came up and this looked to be the right fit. A positive spinoff of this short 'vacation' is that I was able to land a part time position in a cigar shop that is proving to be a lot of fun. Thanks for all the good mojo thrown my way by all of you here! When things get back on track, just might be able to get the going again!

Re: Climbing out of the hole...
There's a lot worse things that can happen than being laid off for two weeks in July! Good luck on your new opportunity.
