Who has two thumbs and gout?
THIS GUY!!!!
So I woke up with a red, swollen, throbbing right big toe. After dealing with it all day and listening to my co-workers and friends try and get me to go to the ER I finally gave it. After some blood tests and an x-ray the doc and nurse came in and gave me the great news. Looks like it is time to change my diet and cut way back on the drinking. |

So there's no doubt you had an out and out bout of gout?
Seriously, speedy recovery.

Re: Who has two thumbs and gout?
Bummer.
My stepdad gets gout but he has changed his diet a little and hasn't had it in years. Lay off the shellfish and grab some real cranberry juice (not the ocean spray stuff, the full on, unconcentrated juice). It's better as hell but you can do half juice/half water. That really helps him.

Re: Who has two thumbs and gout?
My grandpa has gout, it bothers him from time to time. FWIW he has alot better results from altering his diet and using some old home remedies than just the medicine they give him alone. I think he takes Garlic and drinks vinegar or something else gross, but it helps him. Good Luck with it.

Re: Who has two thumbs and gout?
I hadn't heard about cranberry juice but I DID hear that black cherry juice is the way to go.
But if you subscribe to the adage of "better living thru chemistry", 300mg/day of allopurinol is the bees knees. It is a prescription but it is dirt cheap and I haven't had a twinge in years.

Once I started Allopurinol, went from two attacks a year, to maybe 1 every 18 months. Currently on a 22 month streak... Stress is my trigger. Only food that I ave been able to tie to attacks is peanut butter. Too many PB&J's and I start to feel "the twinge".

Re: Who has two thumbs and gout?
My doctor warned it might. I didn't experience any.
