Default Buying booze online

Hello. I asked this question on another forum, but I thought I would get an opinion from the good folks at CA.

"Hello All! I will be going to Seattle, WA from Canada at the end of the month and was hoping to pickup 3-5 bottles of rum and scotch during the trip. I was wondering if it is cheaper to purchase online compared to the state prices in WA. If it is cheaper, does anyone reccommend any particular online retailer? I am aware that liquor did recently go private in the state and prices have therefore increased. Is it worth the hassle to get it online? Thanks in advance."

You can save a few bucks per bottle, which is quickly eaten by shipping. It comes down to availability. If you can get what you want locally, do it! If there are things you can't get that you really want, ship it.

Just had another thought (I shouldn't surf so shortly after awakening): Make sure WA allows it, and how they handle it. I know they are fairly restrictive on tobacco.

An easy way to do this in advance is go to several mail order sites and see if they ship there.

Absolutely right. I work for a wine shop with a website, and there are numerous states which do not allow adult bevrages of any sort to be shipped, at least from out of state. Also, though wine is often allowed, there are more strict restraints on both beer and liquor. We once got into trouble shipping brandy from NJ to Delaware, until we objected that brandy was a fortified wine, and not a liquor.

Thanks for your replies boys. I think I will skip the online booze order and source it locally. Doesn't seem to be worth a headache to potentially save a few dollars.

I know this is a but off topic, but you mentioned, Tony, that Washington state is quite restrictive on tobacco imports. I looked up the regulations and I saw that cigarettes and some other forms of tobacco are prohibited from entering the state from unregulated channels, but that cigars were exempt The info was a few yearts old, so I am wondering if I will have a problem ordering cigars from Florida to Washington State. Can you order cigars online and bring them into Washington?
