Objects used for rests/ashtrays
I'm curious as to what various objects the inmates might use for cigar rests or ashtrays, which are not commercial in nature.
As an example, I often use a little item I picked up a couple of years ago when I visited Union Pacific Steam Locomotive #844. The brakeman told me this was a piece of brake lining from #844, just a chunk that fell off. It makes a cool cigar rest. I'm a train fan as well, so it fits right in. What else are you guys using? Thanks. http://qsl.net/kg0yh/upbrake.jpg

Re: Objects used for rests/ashtrays
My best rest is my palio cutter.
My #2 is the single cigar ashtray that cigarnut sells. My #3 is my X stand that works really well with many, but not most, cigar ash trays.

I am thinking about using a diesel piston for an ashtray:

When the boy was younger, i'd make him hold it when I needed to say, fix a drink or flip steaks on da grill. That worked out well for me.

Funny you posted this... I always use the band on my watch. Works great for me and I can adjust the way it cuddles my cigar.

Re: Objects used for rests/ashtrays
You should have grooves machined out of it to rest the cigar in, would be bad ass

Hey Wes, that looks pretty cool, but I might think twice about what that item is made of. It might contain Asbestos.

Re: Objects used for rests/ashtrays
My most common unconventional rest is the groove between two planks on an empty wire spool on my deck. Here I used it to take a photo of a Viaje S&B, but with a lit cigar, I just hang the end of the cigar off the table:

I have a small collection of hand carved monkeywood pineapple nut/candy dishes that work great:
This one worked really well, until I accidentally knocked it off the table onto a concrete pad and it shattered: And, my most oft used ashtray: |

Cool. Tnx for tip about my souvenir! It might very well have asbestos... I may have to give it early retirement.

Re: Objects used for rests/ashtrays
About one and a half years ago I fassioned an ashtray out of the origional brake rotors I replaced in my 911. I gave three away to my Porsche/cigar friends, and kept one for myself. A front rotor BTW works better.

Re: Objects used for rests/ashtrays
I use one of those mosquito coil holders. It's convex on the top, so it rests nicely. But not when the coil's lit.
