Guillermo Leon grande corona
Guillermo Leon is one of the main characters behind the success of La Aurora. Cigars were only a secondary business for the Leon family until Guillermo was appointed vice executive president of La Aurora in the early 90's and with a dedicated team he built La Aurora to a household name for every cigar aficionado. Last year he was honored with the Guillermo Leon signature cigars. The cigars are a blend with fillers from Peru, Brazil, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic wrapped in a double binder, one from Cameroon for the sweetness, one ligero for the strength and then finished with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
The cigars are not for sale in The Netherlands but a Dominican friend of mine, who lives in The Netherlands and has family that is tight with the Leons managed to get a box of the 6x47 corona grande and gave me a few. The wrapper is quite dark and oily with a few big veins. The color reminds me of dark chocolate. I like the band. I smell a strong hay and straw smell. The construction feels a bit hard. The predraw is fine and I taste peppery tobacco. I taste wood and straw, the flavors are dry and full. The flavors remind me of autumn leaves too. After a quarter of an inch I taste dry toast with herbs and a bit of citrus. After an inch I also taste some chocolate in the aftertaste. The chocolate disappears after a third and instead I taste herbal toast. Halfway the milky chocolate returns with herbs and a pleasant acidic flavor, I can't specify what the acidic flavor tastes like but it isn't citrus. The chocolate slowly grows stronger and the flavor is sticky. I still taste the herbs and the toast. After two thirds I taste pepper with the sticky chocolate, the toast and the herbs. The chocolate disappears and the toast gets stronger. The flavors are dry. The pepper disappears too and the final flavors are herbs and toast. This cigar lasted me for an hour and fifty minutes. The smoke is thick and plentiful. The compact gray ash is firm and the burn is great. The draw is great too. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied. Would I buy this cigar again? I hope they will be released in The Netherlands soon Appearance: 7 / 10 Construction: 8 / 10 Draw: 8 / 10 Burn: 8 / 10 Smoke & ash: 8 / 10 Aroma first part: 7 / 10 Aroma second part: 8 / 10 Aroma third part: 8 / 10
