Default Finally some good news from the Doc

Just got back from the doctors this morning. Finally some good news. Been going through some issues of late with my blood tests. My cholesterol is right at 200. HDL needs to come up a skosh, but still not bad. Triglycerides were excellent too. Guess cutting back on the carbs really does work.

The other good news is I can go back to smoking cigars. Well, he didn't necessarily say that, but it's not like I have to quit. My hemoglobin was elevated at the last test, meaning my blood had too many red blood cells. The blood they drew today will show what's the cause of that.

The only bad part was nearly passing out as they drew the vials of blood. My blood sugar mustve crashed hard. Laid down for a few minutes and drank a Coke and was as good as new.

Try to keep the stress levels down by not worring too much about the stuff that will happen regardless of what we try to do to prevent it. I also cut a lot of fried foods out, ie french fries, fast foods, etc. Try just broiled or baked chicken, fish, and turkey meat....all non fried. A bowl of oatmeal everyday for 30 days will definately decrease the cholestoral level. Good luck!

PS,...I will buy the next ingredients for you to make another batch of the shine. Me and a few friends managed to knock the remainder of the batch you gave me out....LOL Damn good stuff

That's wonderful news! I hate having low blood sugars. Always feel a little out of sorts for a while afterwards.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.

Howard, about 2 years ago after the death of my mom, I decided to make some lifestyle changes to get in better shape, mostly to my diet. I now eat a lot more fruits/veggies than i ever did. Don't eat as much beef either, and what i do is all grass fed (with the exception of the occasional burger out). Same goes for chicken/pork. I buy all pasture raised products. Also cut out the processed foods. By doing that, i was able to lose 35-40lbs. I didn't get off the BP meds, but did cut the dosage by 33%.

Fast forward to last week. Went in for another issue and had my blood checked. Turns out I'm a type 2 diabetic and have the issue of the high red blood cell count. Well, that's given me the motivation to make even more diet changes (cut back on carbs and eat even more fruits/veggies) and exercising. My goal is to get off all meds and control the diabetes through diet/exercise.

This is key-most people want the quick fix and immediately go on medication to lower their personal responsibility in maintaining healthy cholesterol/glucose levels through dietary/exercising. A lot of people would rather take Lipitor and still eat their fried foods.

Hey Bob, I have the same problem with my HDL and Triglycerides. Unfortunately it is genetic for me so my doc has me on Niacin and Fish Oil. I take around 5000mg of Niacin a day and 6000 mg of fish oil. We will see in six months if it is helping, otherwise he wants to put me on a statin. I am thinking of trying Acupuncturist to see if she can help.

The Niacin kicks my ass some times if I am not paying attention to when I take it, and taking 12 pills a day sucks.

Fortunately I am very athletic and work out hard at least twice a week and eat well. Congrats on your good news and keep it up!

Your high RBC count could be simply because you may have been a bit dehydrated (less fluid, so higher RBC percentage), but also because of primary or secondary polycythemia. I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I did just have a pathophysiology test yesterday that covered this very topic.

The initial thought is polycythemia. He took more blood today to have the iron levels checked. He said my hemoglobin level was 17.6 and anything below 16 was good. So I"m not that far off.

We only covered iron deficient anemia-not anything to do with "excess" iron above what the recommended range would be.
