Red face Horror Stories: A Tale of Two Smokes

A Tale of Two Smokes: Why you should never smoke two full-bodied cigars before breakfast.

There was a warm stillness in the fall air as I opened my window Sunday morning. The trees were displaying their vibrant hues of lavender, coquelicot, gold, and ochre. "What a wonderful morning for a smoke or two," I think to myself as I gently crack the lid of my humidor. I had never smoked two cigars in a sitting, but I deserved it. After all, I only had one last week because of a hectic schedule - surely I could start this week with two. A pungent duo of cedar and moist tobacco fills the room as I contemplate which two smokes will accompany me on my journey to the patio. After a brief moment of indecision, I carefully pull out a Padrón and Opus X before making my way outside...

As I lit the dark, oil-filled, toothy wrapper of the Padrón and reclined in my chair I methodically sifted through the schedule for the day in my mind. Every puff filled my palate with the sweet complexity of the maduro. My fingers became warm from the nub of the Padrón as I set it in the ashtray and lit the Opus. The flavors of the new cigar were much different, but pleasing in their own way...

As I stood up from my recliner after finishing the cigars I took a step forward and paused. "This is odd," I thought. With a cautious gait I walked back into the house. By the time I closed the door I noticed that a few beads of sweat were forming near my hairline. My clumsy, tingling fingers flipped on the bathroom light to reveal a pale reflection in the mirror...

Long story short I spent a good portion of the morning laying down with a bucket in easy reach. I won't be doing that ever again. Feel free to post your own personal cigar horror stories.

I think something like the 5th or 6th cigar I ever smoked was an Edge. Lets just say that was a rough night.

Next time, ingest a small amount of sugar and you will be been fine in 15-20 min.

My horror story is one I actually loved. Marathon PPP (12 hours) at SH IV. Palate was uttery toasted but it sure was fun.

Yeah. A Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 smoked way too fast with no food did me in one time. I LOVED that cigar. I haven't smoked one since though. Me thinks its time...

Nic can kick your butt on occasion. Sugar is the cure. I used to smoke while drinking diet pop and I sometimes would get light headed. Now I try to make sure I get some sugar in there when smoking more than usual.

Haha, mine would be my... 4th or 5th time ever smoking?

Anyway, I started a CAO America, didn't like it 1/2 way, so I grabbed a CAO Mx2, didn't like that 1/2 way through either, finally (remember that I had no monitary responsability at this point, cigar money was as easy as taking away some cash from my shooting budget) I grabbed a La Perla Habana Black Pearl, and got about 80% of the way through it before I got up, ran to the dumpster and blasted puke for 3 hours

That was the day I decided I wouldn't be touching another CAO (well, until I convinced myself to try a La Traviata)

Still haven't thrown up from a cigar. I smoked 3 one night while camping back to back... Maybe it was the full stomach of brats and burgers that kept me good.

However, I don't know the sugar trick for nicotine, but I do use the sugar for almost any illness I get. Sugar is the cure to almost any kind of nausea.

Coke is my to go drink when I'm smoking.

EDIT : I smoke my first Padron 1926 when I was sick. That was pretty foolish of me to waste a good cigar like that. The following week I was feeling much better and smoke a hammer

When I first started smoking cigars I bought some perdomo immenso's. For those of you that are not sure what these are, they are 72 gauge monsters. I had thebright idea to smoke one all the way thru on an empty stomach. One of the longest nights of my life. Puked my guts up.

Don't think I ever got sick from a cigar... I'll bet it is much less common among cigarette smokers, which I once was. Now chewing tobacco...

Cheers,

I have had the empty stomach cigar sickness a few times. Though it has not happened in a long time as I learned to avoid it. My main cigar horror story is I went to have a cigar, and I only had one left, so I planned to enjoy it to the full potential. Turns out my now ex (who was mad at me at the time) threw it out in a fit of rage earlier that day without me knowing...

I've only had one day that cigars kicked my ass. Smoked a Partagas ISOM in about 30 minutes, then one part of a culebra Partagas ISOM in about 20 minutes, then was smoking 2 Edge Battalions at the same time...one regular and one maduro. I was at an event and the Battalions were just released so the rep gave me the regular and I asked about the strength of the maddie. Then, he clipped a maddie and said "try 'em side by side and tell me what you think". I made it about 75% through both and suddenly felt quite nauseous. I put both down, drank some soda and beer, and relaxed for about 30 minutes while my buddies laughed like crazy. I eventually bought a box of the Edge Battalion maddies that evening

Had that happen to me a few times. I smoked a chisel once when I hadn't eaten for 12 hours. I thought for sure I was going to pass out.

Never had cigars make me sick. Probably from years of chewing tobacco.
Heck I have been known to chew the butts of my cigars (after clipping the ash)

Not exactly good protocol, I admit

That said, only time I ever got really messed up is when iIhad placed about 4 apple slices in with my Beechnut one summer.

Don't know if it was the heat, or the new bag i had made (I would wrap ziplock bags with duct tape because they could take the abuse of being on FTX better than the regular pouches) but I got sicker than a dog off it after day 4.
