Everyone seems excited about this deal. I'm not so sure.
He can throw 100+mph, but how's his control and stamina? I don't think that this team can afford another pitcher who has control issues. The new pitching coach may have his work cut out for him.

I don't know if he will pan out or not. Most people haven't seen him pitch b/c he is from Cuba. I am just exicted that the Reds signed a prospect that a lot of other teams were trying to get

Here's his stats:

Cuban stats:
GS IP BB K ERA
15 54 54 56 4.52
12 81.1 50 100 2.90
16 74 37 79 3.49
20 118.1 62 130 3.18

That's a lot of walks, but otherwise not bad.

Andy I think this is HUGE for the team. This kid was one of the top prospects coming out of Cuba. There was actually an "Outside the Lines" special on ESPN a year or so ago about him. IMO we will have one of the best, deepest, youngest staffs in the league this year. I for one can't wait to see what happens this year. Hopefully we can stay healthy

Still waiting to hear if we're gonna keep Arroyo and Harang or dump one for payroll.

I too am wondering this Man, I wish we could start the year with Volquez. Are they still estimating he will be back in late May/early June?

I wonder how the Reds were able to out-bid the Yankees, Red Sox, etc.

I don't think the Yankees really got into it that much. Cashman is just about at his budget and they do not have a great track record with these types of players.

I believe it only has to do with 1 thing. The Reds are the only team that's colors are red and have a big C on the hat.

They are already calling him 'The Cuban Missile'.

From what I heard, he liked the Reds cause the pitching coach speaks spanish, Volquez does too and there are like 9 other Latin Americans on the roster.

On the radio they were saying that there are going to be a lot of people looking out for his best interests b/c he comes from communist Cuba. Now he is in a free country and has a LOT of money. Lets hope he doesn't get too crazy

It will be interesting to see if Juan Francisco can make the team this year (LF). I was listening to Marty and Thom Brennaman today on the radio and they said he is doing awesome in winter ball.
