Default Don Q Anejo?

Local shop got some in recently, and has it at $60/bottle. Haven't tried it nor seen it anywhere around here before. Anyone have any experience with it? Anything it compares to?

Thanks!

Puerto Rican rum. Nothing special. That sounds very expensive. Someone got me a bottle on vacation. It's pretty good, but I can't see spending more than $25 on that bottle. Rum is the best value on distilled spirits and $60 should get you an epic rum of like 20+ years old...

Had the regular and thought it was really good as far as clear rum...

So, it seems that I'll pass on it. The store owner is always looking for good rums for me. He knows I like Zaya (Guat) and Zacapa, so he tries to get some different stuff in every once in a while.

If you want to spend, the Appleton 20 year is pretty special.

I didn't care much for the regular Appleton, are their higher ends improved?

No idea. The 20 is only one I tried.

My Dad got a bottle of that from a Puerto Rican friend. It ain't bad, but overpriced at $60. I do like Puerto Rican rums, Ron del Barillito is one of my all-time favorites, but hard to find this far north. Though if you like Zaya and Zacapa, the Puerto Rican style may not be for you. Look for Centenario, Diplomatico, and Ron Pampero Aniversario.

I don't feel the PR is any kind of Rum mecca. DR, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica have PR beat.

In my opinion there really isn't a single rum 'mecca'. Every country has a different style. Since many have different distilleries, there's almost always something to be had from each, but there'll be bottles from each that aren't anything to write home about also.

For $60, look for Gosling's Old Rum Family Reserve.

Had the Don Q Anejo and Ron Del Barillito, prefer Barillito hands down.
