Default Yet another Pepin brand.

Just came across what appears to be another Pepin blend/brand. This is called Capana d'Oro and is, I think, a house blend for Barclay Rex. Looks as though there are two lines - Standard and Vintage. Just speculating here but the Standard seems to be in the Fumadores/Bench Made/Tabacos Baez SF mold while the Vintage looks to be a premium brand. I'll try and post a link tomorrow. In the meantime, they are listed on the BR website.

Not exactly sure how DPG is managing to do all that he is but, being a Pepin freak, I wouldn't mind trying these.

Title of the thread says it all... How many damn blends does this guy do? Seems like almost everything has a something to do with Pepin.

DPG does about 372968 fewer than Rocky Patel.

So you're saying his cigars are like Chuck's acting: no substance, but a good swift kick to the face.

Can't say I dissagree.

I don't like that he's coming out with yet another line. Seems like he maybe taking a page out of Rocky Patel's and Gurkha's books. Why can't he just concentrate on one line...

There is a big difference in him and those guys, Christos. He is an actual tobacco man. Also, since he just opened the largest cigar complex in Nica, he can handle it. He has said numerous times, he will not exceed what he is capable of producing.

I have yet to see any issues with what he's making now. I haven't sampled all of his cigars, but the ones I have had (even if the taste wasn't to my liking) had perfect construction, provided they were stored properly.

The standard version looks to be priced very nicely, can't tell if its long filler or medium filler as the OP stated.

There's a deffinate difference. He's not like Ghurka or Patel by putting his name on every single blend he does, he's simply rolling cigars for other companies. The fact that he doesn't have to put his name on all of them, to me at least, gives him a sense of class.

However I worry that while he's pushing out all the blends, I know he can handle them and many more in the facility, what is to become of the quality? I worry that it may start to slip as he may not have the personal time for each blend, as of yet I don't see that though.

Thou shalt not speak against Don Pepin, any of his blends, or discuss high price points. This is an unwritten law that will be enforced by a select team of asylum members.

I'd buy some, but they only sell em in box form and not 5ers or singles.

I've never felt the need to try every cigar that Pepin makes. None of them are radically different in flavor and I really only like the Tat brands anyway. I've only smoked of few from his personal brand but they didn't do anything for me.

Here is some additional info. regarding this brand - Capana d'Oro.

The Standard line is, in fact, a long-filler hand-made with a rosado wrapper. These are very reasonably priced and are offered in boxes of 25. These may be more similar to the Ambos Mundos line instead of the Tabacos Baez SF or Bench Made.

The Vintage line (which are the ones that interest me) have much more selective tobaccos in the blend. They are aged longer and are sold in cabinets of 50. These are much more expensive as well, running from $8.50 (robusto) to $11.00+ (salomone). While BR does not offer a sampler, in speaking with them, you can construct your own.

Apparently, Pepin has made these cigars for BR the past 2-3 years, so they aren't exactly new. I think it's interesting that there was a Pepin blend, regardless of whether it was a "house brand", flying under the radar for this long. Makes you wonder if there are some others out there, still relatively unknown.
