Default What is the oldest cigar you have ever smoked?

I just had opportunity to burn one that was almost 100 years old.
I wondered if anyone else has ever smoked a really old cigar, what it was, and how old.
What'd ya think?
I also wondered if anyone had a burning desire to smoke a really old cigar, or if the thought was somehow pleasing to them?
I'm interested to hear your thoughts, positive or negative.
I can preface this by saying that my favorite cigars are almost exclusively one year old, just out of their sick period, and at their most intense flavor.
I'm far too "unrefined" to enjoy the ethereal nuance that Min Ron Nee speaks of, but I'd love to sit with him and experience those things that he's so enraptured by. I've found that everything good I've learned about enjoying a "special" or "different" cigar I've learned from someone who has learned from someone else. I'm sure he (or someone with that sort of experience) could show me what I'm missing and help me enjoy the experience.
I look forward to the opportunity to stand by a rolling table someday and fire one up that someone just rolled, because I've never done that.
I think that would be a hell of an experience.
Anyways...
Let me know what you think.

There's a really dusty pack of Phillies in the drugstore next door - if anyone is interested.

I also smoked (in a P-P-P) a couple 100 year old cigars over the past couple years. Though the fact that they were still in smokable condition and actually had some flavor aside from "musty" was amazing, and it was cool in a "novelty" kind of way.....but they would not rank anywhere near the top (or middle) of great cigars I have smoked.

Did you mean "near the top" or "not near the top"?
I have honestly not had a bad old one. They all smoked great and didn't stink, fall apart, and none were musty like you'd expect.
They have all been as good or better constructionwise than anything I can buy today. That's something special in itself, I think.
It's a LOT of work keeping cigars in good shape for 10 years let alone 50 or 100. It really says something. Not sure what, but it's gotta say something.

Oldest I've smoked was from '99. I've often wondered about old smokes, however most of the things I've read were about lack of flavor and blandness so they aren't something I actively seek out. Should the opportunity come up one day maybe, but again not on the top of my list of rarety smokes to buy

I have been quite fortunate as well.

I have smoked a 1973 Flor De Cano a 1968 Upmann

I have in my posession a 1950's White Owl that is very special

I also have another 1960's pre embargo Clear as well as a foil wrapped cigar that is apparently from the 1930's to 1940's

I hope to smoke some of my own that will be 40 plus years old..............but that means I have to make it to 75 years old to do it...........I am planning on it but who knows.

I have smoked some stuff from the 1930's...it def had a unique flavor profile. It was more for novelty and to say I smoked something older than me.

I have a special box with old cigars Scott that I have aquired from sales. I've only had one I didn't really care for. My favorite is the King Edwards that I picked up from someone on here sometime last year. My draw to these old sticks are the ones that give the horse'radish nose exhale. Me likey the burn!

Oops, to answer your question- The Betsy Ross as well.

I was likely to be part of a PPP of a 1954? Red Dot. I thought it was really awesome but that may have been because of everyone that was there.

I also had the pleasure of smoking one of the Betsy Ross's Scott. Thankfully I have 3 more to look forward to.

I'm thinking of aging them for awhile to see how they develop

But I had much the same experience as you with them - I really, really enjoyed the one I smoked!

I was in a ppp with a Spanish Joy, dated between 1890-1930, but more likely somewhere between 1890-1910

1948 Josa Garcia from a sealed tin. The flavors were of toasted bread, a very unique smoke.
