Default When do you tip the ash on your cigar?

I try and let it go as long as possible before I break off the ash.

I feel that if you are constantly tipping, you're treating your cigar like a cigarette.

Your thoughts?

I hate it when the ash gets on me (especially when I'm in my garage) so I tip about every 1 - 1.25 inches

That is the ideal length. At that point all your doing is chancing ash in the keyboard!

I usually wait too long and get it on my shirt.

Long as possible. Keeping the ash short makes the cigar burn too hot. Unfortunatly this leads to cigar ash on my cloths, in the chair, inside the keyboard...

I give it a knock at around 3/4 and if it doesn't fall, I keep on going.

Not all ashes are the same. Some are flaky, some are powdery, some are solid as a rock and some just aren't worth a crap. (crap being the ones that fall off constantly)

In fact, while reading this thread, I had an 1-1/2 worth fall on my sweatshirt and onto my keyboard... I just keep a can of spray air out here on the table so I can de-ash the keyboard....

Much better then my solution of returning the laptop to work for another when the keys start to stick. I imagine the next user would appreciate that also.

I'm an ash gambler, I try to ash it right before it falls on me....

I usually lose.

Also, if I need to relight i try to drop the ash off first.

Me too. But, it's hard to tell which I do more frequently, drop ashes on myself or drop my lighters.

I usually let it go around an inch if I'm sitting down or indoors. If I'm standing outside, then I let it decide.

I tend to ash at about 1", since I smoke indoors. Rather ash than have it drop on the floor. Never noticed any difference in flavor.
