Default What's with all the bands

Do we really need 3-4 bands on cigars?
Do the manufacturers just want us to destroy the wrapper so we buy more?
I just don't get it..

Those are flavor bands. Smoke through them.

with the multi banded sticks Ive had the foot band tends to come off rather easily.

I smoke with the band on, so by the time I get to the point that it needs to come off, its usually pretty loose already. It seems like the "other" bands typically come off easily too. Like the double band on a Mag 50

A Masshole I know uses a pocket knife to carefully pry the bands apart so that he can save them.

Marketing!! Eye candy.

Its kind of like fishing lures. Do you think fish can see all those pretty colors..??
Most lures are designed to catch shoppers not fish...

Not to digress from the purpose of the thread, but you are both right and wrong on this. While more lures are designed to catch shoppers not fish, fish are only color blind at night and in deeper water. Predatory fish do see colors and that allows them to locate their favorite meals in shallow water. If you have ever noticed, bait fish comes in many different colors.

As the water gets deeper the color of the lures become more muted to the human eye and eventually would become grays and shadows but that is when the fish's other senses take over and it becomes more about vibrations and sound.

Now back to the cigar bands. They obviously serve two different purposes. The first is to identify the stick. The second is to grab your attention and say "Buy me."

I've never had much of a problem with the extra bands...but if it would lower the price if they left it off....then I vote to leave them off.

My .02 I like bands. We sit there and evaluate the looks of the wrap, viens, etc. I like a good looking band as well to go with it.

I just bought a bunch of gummed buckle styled bands for bombs, buys, etc. ~ .08 a band for a plain white label. We know they get bands way cheaper than I can. 16,000 labels was .04 a label.

I'll even go the .08 ea for printing for conversation. So, .08 on a $10 - $20 cigar, not even worth the mention. Let's even go the more typical $5 cigar, I would bet they aren't gonna refund the saved .08 on a $5 cigar. Unless the band is special like the Oliva silk cloths, I would say no real additional expense to the stick.

I like the look of the extra bands too... I think it makes a stick look more attractive (on most anyway) which adds to my overall smoking pleasure.

I also like the bands, and I think it is a good marketing ploy. If a cigar band stands out you are probably more likely to give it a try.

I've made the quickly corrected mistake of trying to light one that had the band on the foot.
