Question about Gone With the Wind song?
In the scene where Ashley Wilkes, Rhett Butler, and Dr. Meade come into Mellie's from their night at the shanty-town, drunk, what song are they singing? The only line I can catch is "All the darkies am a-singing..."
Great film, in my opinion. Looks wonderful in HD, and makes me sorry I didn't watch the DVD at all when I bought it. Thankfully, I found the desire to buy the collector's set at a great price, and sat down to enjoy it. They don't make 'em like this any more...pity. Thanks for any help - Kegan |

On second viewing, it may be "Swanee River."

Thats actually called "old folks at home" isn't it? by Stephen Foster. I live not too far from the Suwannee River and Stephen Foster never even saw it.

I have not seen the movie in about 30 years but it might be a segment from the original Old Man River.

Re: Question about Gone With the Wind song?
I actually just checked it, and it doesn't appear in the lyrics, but who knows?
I've got a feeling Foster didn't see a lot of what he wrote. I read once, however, that he was found dead in Pittsburgh, PA with a few cents in his pocket and handwritten lyrics to "Hard Times Come Again No More." Now that's tragic bordering on maudlin lol I first heard it on The Flintstones, myself...way down upon the Stony River |

As for Ol Man River, that was written in 1927, according to online sources.
