Northern Lights must be some of the most amazing things to ever be seen.
It's on my bucket list!

Re: Amazing aurora pic
I dream of seeing this in person some day.
Amazing what causes that effect. If we were on another planet unlike Earth, we would be fried. Actually, beyond fried. Gone instantly.

That is really cool.
Did any one read the story of the luna rainbow that was also pretty cool. I did not know that that even existed

Re: Amazing aurora pic
Great photo!
I have seen them pulsate and undulate a few times, the most intense show when I was out on Madeleine Island out in Superior for a 2 hours about 12 years ago. We laid on the beach and couldn't believe our eyes, 20 times more intense than either myself or my buddy had ever seen. One of my favorite natural wonders. |

Very cool Mark! I have never seen the Aurora Borealis, but I am hoping to when I go on an Alaska cruise next May!

Re: Amazing aurora pic
As close to the North Pole as you can. The closer you go, the better the show.
It is due to how the solar flares hit the Earth and the tilt on the globe. Amazing stuff.

The show just gets more brilliant and prominent as you go north. Besides, upstate NY IS the north pole to a NJ/FL guy like me.

For the individual planets shots I used a DMK 41AF02 monochrome camera and a DBK41AF02 color camera, both from The Imaging Source attached to my WO FLT110 f/6.5 refractor through a Televue Powermate 2,5x. For the wide-field picture, I used a Canon Eos 5DMkII at prime focus Even for a photographer, that stuff sounds like a foreign language.
