Spam?
Is anyone here a spam fan?
I tried it for the first time ever this morning. We were watching a show on Hawaiian food and I though Spam an eggs looked good so I gave it a shot this morning as my "last day of vacation" breakfast. It came out pretty good. The taste reminded me a little bit of Pork Roll. |

Re: Spam?
I can't say I've had it yet but I recently saw there's a cookbook out there on the stuff. I haven't had Pork Roll either but I have had Vienna Sausages and thought that maybe SPAM was close.
When I was younger, I did work for 3 months at Silgan Containers out in the Valley out here and they manufactured the SPAM can. So cool! For your next trip to Hawaii, even McDonald's has it on the menu! |

Re: Spam?
It is a camping staple for breakfast with our family. Get the morning fire going, put on the coffee, open & slice the SPAM and you'd be amazed how good it is cooked over and open fire. (often, we find generic versions of spam that are as good and sometimes better) We have a cast iron waffle maker that we use in the fire too - grilled spam and waffles is a great camping breakfast.

Re: Spam?
Tried it years ago and didn't bowl me over but guess there are recipes out there where you can make things better than they are. Obviously, if you can make tripe and manudo taste good Spam should be a no brainer!

Re: Spam?
Try this;
Heat up your pancake griddle. Make your pancake batter. Cut your Spam into 1/4" thick slices. Lay out your Spam and fry it on 1 side. Flip the Spam and pour Pancake batter over it. Continue to cook pancake as usual. Spamcakes. They are actually very good, especially w/ the syrup. the kids dig-em too for a little change on Dads day off. |

According to the show Hawaiins consume the most Spam per capita in the world. My friend had a room mate in college from Guam who said his island held that title. So, I'm wondering who's right or if maybe Hawaii passed Guam in the 10 years since I heard that.
