Pair Recomendation for a night of cards
I want to pick up a box of CC's and a bottle or two of something a little less than normal for a night of cards in early December.
So the sticks would have to be good young and able to purchase in the next few days. I'm hoping the booze, whiskey or rum will compliment the smokes. I'm really hoping the smokes and booze will compliment the cards. And then it will be a trifecta of happiness! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Seeing that you're a Partagas fan, I would recommend the presidentes. I had 2 over the summer that were fresh that were quite nice for something without any age on it at all.
After looking at my usual source, there are some really good prices out there right now. I really like cigars with Padron Anejo or Don Julio Anejo myself. |

For booze,
Rum I like 1. Don Q grand anejo 2. Ron zacapa 23 year 3. Zaya 12 year Bourbon 1. Weller barrel proof 2. Four roses 120 anniversary 3. Woodford master's collection Any of those 6 would be pure bliss. Bourbon might be a bit overpowering, but I don't think so. Just make sure your friends don't dilute the piss out of either, I hate when I bring top shelf booze and people pour mixers in it. |

Thanks Duane. Huge Partagas fan!
Bill. You dilute your bourbon? I would think someone might mix with coke or pepsi but I was more thinking drinking something on the rocks while smoking. Good, no?

No I don't my friends do....AT MOST my bourbon gets ONE ice cube per 4 oz's.....99% of the time it's just straight in a glass.
Yeah I'm strongly opposed to diluting top shelf alcohol. I was hoping your friends wouldn't after you drop $60-90 on a bottle.....if coke goes anywhere near it I go postal. |

I like Buffalo Trace - it is a great bourbon, but more budgetary for me. Yes, it goes well with cigars, and you know your choice there.

The Rev!
Are these bottles were speaking of available to purchase at a normal liquor store? Later tonight I'll research these a little bit more. I thank you for all the info so far.

Two bourbons that are generally available everywhere and are fairly inexpensive but great are Evan Williams Single Barrel and Russell's Reserve. I like Bill and Rev's choices as well.
For a good "pairs well with everything" Scotch I would choose Balvenie 12y Doublewood. Yes I know there are better Scotchs but this one pairs well with so many cigars. For rum I would second the nomination for Ron Zacapa 23 |

Many Thanks Bill! I'll take another look at them later on tonight. I'll let you know later tonight.
Update. The smokes might be Duanes suggestion of Partagas Presidentes.

Bookers Bourbon makes the absolute best Old Fashioned I have ever tasted. Unfortunately I can't remember what I smoked that night. Or where my pants went.

That's good to hear Derrick. Thank you. The sticks were so much easier to select than the bottle.

Re: Pair Recomendation for a night of cards
Maybe I got duds but the fresh Monte 2's I've had were flavorless and boring. The '06's I've had have been terrific!

Re: Pair Recomendation for a night of cards
Upmann Corona Majors or Partagas Petite Corona Especiales are relatively inexpensive and smoke well fresh. As for the liquor there are a lot of great suggestions already made. However, no matter what you serve, your guest should enjoy it the way they see fit. Not in the way you expect them to enjoy it. If the cost/quality is a problem, then serve something less "special". When I serve booze/cocktails, my only concern is that my guests enjoy their beverage.
