Arrowheads
Anyone collect arrowheads or have found some? Since Ive been working in Texas I have found a few crappy ones, nothing great by any means but I have gotten hooked. I went on a paid dig today with a co worker and we managed to find a few broken pieces. Still trying to find a perfect one but damn is it fun trying to look.

Re: Arrowheads
Man, that brings back memories!
Back in the day when I had lots of time on my hands and spent most iof it hiking and canoeing, I found a lot of points, both arrow and knife. We also have a lot of shell middens (basically, indian trash piles) around this part of Florida, so I have quite a bit of pot shards from various time periods stashed away somewhere. I need to get up in the attic and dig them out!

Re: Arrowheads
When I was a kid I found a really nice arrowhead in the creek over at my parents house in VA. I think it still may be in my old rock collection at my parent house.

Re: Arrowheads
I've only found 3 in my searches for arrowheads. One of those was a very old clovis point. According to a pro and a few ID books I've looked at it could very well date back to the ice age....which is pretty damn old. Considering that I live in a very interesting geological area, it's very possible that it could be that old. Unlike most of Northern Illinois, glaciers didn't completely flatten the landscape, leaving us the Southern Illinois Ozarks.

Man, the skill it took to knap those curves at the attachment point is just
phenomenal. Cool pic, although it was so big it took me a lot of scrolling to find the arrowhead. Kind of like the actual hunt for it, lol. |
