Default NYC, anywhere to smoke?

I'm taking the wife to NYC Memorial Day weekend. Neither of us have ever been. From what I've heard, smoking laws are pretty crazy. Can you smoke in shops? Are there cigar bars/clubs that I could hit up for a smoke or two? I'll be staying in midtown Manhattan a block off Broadway. Can anyone recommend a shop near where I'll be?

I'm heading there too next week. Can I still smoke outside a Starbucks?

If you are just looking for a cigar shop, there are quite a few, and you can smoke in most. IMO, best in midtown area would be:
De La Concha - 6th Ave and 56/7th St
Davidoff - Madison/54th, maybe 53rd. - very limited seating.

Skip J&R. Mediocre selection and every time I've bought cigars there, they are dry as hell.

If you want a nicer environment, there are a few cigar bars:
Carnagie Club - 56th between 6th/7th Ave - cover and live jazz Fri/Sat nights
Merchants East - 1st Ave/62nd St (not really midtown, but nice, and cheaper than Carnagie - it's an easy walk or a <$10 cab ride)

Those are the places I tend to frequent. There are a few other places I've not been.

If my mom wasn't in town that weekend, I'd meet you out, but it looks like I'll likely be pretty busy. Put a post in the herf section though if you want, as there are quite a few members around.
