Default How do YOU pronounce Latakia?

Until yesterday I had only ever read this word. I read it, and my brain says:

la-TACK-ee-ah

But I was in a pipe shop the other day, two guys were talking, and they called it:

LAT-ah-key

So, how do YOU say it?

I always pronounce it LIGHT-UH-KIA, not sure if that’s right.

How do you get LIGHT out of l-a-t? or do you just have a burning desire to arsonize a Korean car?

No, it's PEAR-UH-KEE.

No, not right? Damn.

I was one of those people that pronounce(d) it LA-TAH-KIA. Sounds better to me, but I'll say it the "right" way if it makes y'all happy.

I used to say Lah- tAkia

I've been saying it correctly since I started watching Subotaj's youtube videos, and I figured the dude from Israel knew how to pronounce the tobacco grown in that general vicinity
