Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
Effective 1/15/2012 cabins as well as balcony's will be off limits. Those passengers who violate the new policy will be subject to a $250 charge added to their shipboard account.
We love to cruise but at this point I don't know if I really give a damn anymore. Plently of other places to spend our $$$'s. |

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
That blows. I can see why you they might not want you to in the cabin but why not on the balcony? I suppose it could disturb others if they don't like smoke but why not just make certain rooms smoking balcony and others non smoking balconies and atleast let people smoke? Maybe I am over thinking again lol.

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
Interesting...that's part of the reason why I get a balcony. Room I understand but a balcony come on now. I've never cruised with them before though.
Tyler makes a good point...make the port side smoking starboard side non-smoking. |

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
Edit, Nevermind it's not illegal to smoke in your own home, yet. Second edit: It's illegal to smoke in your apartment if the following: (4) Individual Units of Multi-Unit Residences, if such Units share at least one common floor or ceiling with another such Unit. Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
I can't believe someone hasn't sued to get this kind of crap overturned. This simply cannot be constitutional. It's a LEGAL product. If you can't smoke in your own home, where can you smoke?

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
This is crazy! I guess I will just not get a balcony on my next cruise so I am not tempted. Do they allow smoking on the pool deck?

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
Here's a recap of the current (& changing) smoking
policies of most cruise lines in US, Caribbean & Europe: http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=225 Many (or most) of the Carnival-owned cruise lines have changed their smoking policies to take effect between 12/1/11 & 1/15/12, depending on the line. You will still be able to smoke on your balcony on Carnival or Holland America next year (NO smoking in the cabins anymore), but of course you have to spend more to get a balcony. Pesonally, I didn't like smoking on the balcony - too isolated. I much prefer to sit on the back of the open Lido deck (where one can still smoke cigars on Holland America & other lines), and actually interact with other passengers. The prohibition of in-cabin smoking, however, will mean that my upcoming cruise with Holland America in November will be my last one with them. This after averaging a cruise every year for 15 or more years. If I can't light a cigarette in my room, I'm not booking the room.

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
They get out of control on these bans. I think a few of them make complete sense, like not smoking in restaurants. But on a balcony, come on. Is there a designated smoking section on the ship?

Re: Princess Cruises To Ax Smoking On Balcony's
Nearly every cruise line ship has some designated smoking area(s),
usually outside on part of the open decks. Many also still have a few designated smoking areas inside, but usually not for cigars or pipes. Depending on the ship, it might be the casino or certain bars. Getting to be fewer & fewer, though.
