Question Came across some old ashtrays!

Have been going through/cleaning some of the old stuff here at my grandfathers house and found some more cool stuff!

I've already requisitioned the 2nd one as my new official cigar ashtray.
As for the one in the 1st picture, does anyone know what the top part of the ashtray is for?
If I was forced to guess, I would assume that the top part is intended to keep smoke out of ones eyes? Appreciate any info anyone can give more educated info on that ashtray though.
I'm pretty fortunate that my gramps was a cigar/pipe enthusiast, as I'm always coming across lots of cool items that are associated with this hobby - or as some would say, lifestyle!

No idea what the top part on the first one would be for. Just wanted to say that second one is pretty cool.

Does the top part open up, pretty sure you fill that with cocaine so it's handy while having a smoke.

Top part comes off I believe, I'll have to test that theory out the next time I don't feel like sleeping for....oh, a month or so!
Glad you guys liked the ashtrays, figured you all might get a kick out of seeing them.

That would be enough coke to kill a team of Clydesdales!

Pfft. Everyone knows Clydesdales are immune to cocaine.

Cool ashtrays, Michael!
