I Need More Pipes!
|
What is the reason to wait 12 hrs between smoking the same pipe?
Someone said that you need to wait at least 12 hrs after using a pipe before using it again. I wonder why?
Now I have like 10 pipes I think but if I am out I may want to refill the same pipe and not carry multiples. Is this not good to do for some reason? Does it damage the pipe somehow? Thanks all. |

I've done it in the same day, but not back to back bowls. Usually after several hours. I dont know if it could hurt the pipe. I think it's mostly about the moisture affecting the flavor, but someone with more experience should chime in in case it could damage the pipe.

Hello The.Sheepdog. Why not go to the Pipe forum then Pipe discussion. It's the thread you posted your question in. There at the very top is a sticky thread: "New Pipe Smoker with a Question? Ask an Old fart" I was going to run the search function for you, but I got to reading posts by an old friend of mine I haven't seen around these parts lately by the name of Mister Moo. Got to reading and saw that the third post was relevant to your question and his answer followed in post # 4. Welcome aboard.

Mr Moo sounded like a righteous guy. I totally get it now thanks to his post. Hope he comes back and hope I keep learning.
I enjoy the cigars, yes I do. I also enjoy the pipes. It's a different thing and I go back and forth. Right now the pipe tobacco is just right. Thank you for your post. |

Re: What is the reason to wait 12 hrs between smoking the same pipe?
I generally switch from cigars in the warmer months to pipes once it gets cold. Or when I go camping in the fall, I will bring my cob and some tobacco instead of cigars. I enjoy both too, just depends on the atmosphere.

Re: What is the reason to wait 12 hrs between smoking the same pipe?
Generally, you can smoke a briar pipe many times within a day. Smoking the same pipe 6 or 8 times during the same day is not unusual for serious pipe smokers. However, once you do so, that pipe should be allowed to rest for sveral days at minimum. Many serious pipe smokers agree that a full week is needed for such a pipe to dry out properly.
Actually, way, way, back in the day, that is the reason 7 Day Pipe Sets were introduced. Now, remember, we are talking about a briar pipe. A Meerschaum Pipe can be smoked over and over and over, day after day, with only a 20/30 minute rest in between smokes. The same is true of Corn Cob Pipes!
