Default Hu-modification

Well, I got this humi a few weeks ago...around Easter. I seasoned it and got it all ready and then realized...there is nowhere to put the humidification boxes. So I looked around local wood shops and landed a piece.

I pretty much just build a small insert in the bottom. It took me a few hours, because my wood working is awful...I really had to take my time

Well, here it is!

I think it looks pretty good

So both your humidification blocks will slide in the wooden holder, retainer.

Glad I could show you something! The most nerve racking part is gluing it in...gorrilla glue is a pain to get off, and if I would have messed it up...it would have looked awful!

Nick, I am confused. You built the divider with the spaces to fit the humidifiers into?
If so, it looks really good.

That's what I did. There was no spot for the humidifiers and I didn't want to use one of the magnet-stick on ones.

Thanks!

I dig this idea because I love using Boveda packets. I could slip them right in without a problem. Anyone else have any other suggestions on how to store Boveda packets in a humidor? It is bad/will it cause mold if they touch the cigars like normal sponge/bead humidifiers?

Boveda actually markets a cedar "sleeve" to put the packets in. The idea is to mount it inside the lid. Of course, that would defeat the purpose of not attaching it to the humidor.

I think what the OP did looks nicer, and should help regulate humidity more.

Well, I don't believe the proximity to the cigar will matter. However, touching the cigar(s) might cause a problem.

It's fine if Boveda packets touch your cigars. Having said that all humidification devices work via airflow, so if your cigars are packed in around your device (beads, sponge, or Boveda packet) the humidification device will be less effective.

I really like that... I'd do something like that and fill it with beads, though... maybe I will do that, actually... wouldn't need the bead bags that way.

That would be cool too. I haven't used beads yet, but I might start. I've read they keep it at a pretty steady 65rH. These humidifiers fluctuate pretty often, mine go from 60-68 all the time.

This. Plus the cigars closest will always be exposed to a much more humid environment than the others. Not only does that mean you may have problems maintaining humidity levels elsewhere in the humidor, but the cigars sitting next to the humidification devices are likely to grow mold (had this happen in the past).

For this reason I have a recurring event in my Outlook calendar set to remind me to check/rotate my cigars every 2 months. I can't really rotate the boxes around since they only fit in a specific Tetris-inspired orientation, but I open them all up and check to make sure there's no mold. I rotate the cigars in my singles drawers so they all get equal exposure to air instead of having some remain constantly buried.

If you have no woodworking skills, there is a similar product sold at Cuban Crafters.

Here is the Boveda holder:
