Solution VS Water
I just got my 40ct Caddy in.. and was reading the instructions.
I have never used solution. I always used distilled water. Are there better results with either one? Does the solution have a sent at ALL? Do the cigars smoke, feel, look different for those that might have used both? Just a little curious. Why do you use the solution over water & vise versa?

Re: Solution VS Water
From what I can tell, the solution is used primarily as a mold deterrent. I use distilled water because its easier to get a cheaper most often.
EDIT: Re-read the post. I don't put anything in my caddy. More often then not, they get over humidified if I put any water in the caddy.

Re: Solution VS Water
I've always used boveda packs, never the actual humidifier in the unit.
Short term I wouldn't even put any humidification in the caddy.

Re: Solution VS Water
Depending on where I am going I will toss something in the travel case..
I use the water because I got a gallon for a few bucks when I was setting up the humi. Have a buddy who swears by the solution... But won't try water.

I have a 2 ounce bag of Shilala beads in my 30 and 50 count. I've never used solution/distileld water in it.

Re: Solution VS Water
I have Shilala beads in all my caddys. The only time Ive added distilled water to the creedo is when Im trying to re-charge the beads... which is not very often.

If you need to have humidification in a cigar caddy, I would recommend a boveda pack, the humidity sheets from heartfelt or a very small bead bag from HCMbeads (although you will lose the space of one cigar with the latter), as all of these are 2-way and will prevent cigars from becoming over humidified too. In a foam humidifier, no not really, they both suck. No. The RH that straight water in a foam humidifier will yield might get higher than what the PG/H2O solution would yield, in which case the cigars can be over humidified and will smoke accordingly. If you had two humidors, both at the same RH, one which used just distilled water in the foam humidifier, the other which used solution, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in which cigar came from which humidor. |
