Thanks Cole. This one is for us. Gonna go on the wall of the cigar lounge I'm building in the basement.

Scott you should take pictures or video record this and speed it up.. I personally find watching those kinds of videos very mesmerizing.
Hat's off to her, I have a hard time just drawing little stick figures. |

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
I wanted to video the water color painting she did but she vetoed that idea prettyquick. she often paints late at night or early in the morning and didn't want to feel like she needed to look pretty 4 the camera. maybe I'll rig up something that just shows the canvas.

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
I have already changed it up a bit from the picture... I am going for the vintage ad look so there will be lettering on the painting. I think I'm going to work on a few at a time since oil takes so long to dry between layers... I MAY let Scott take video if I get on a roll but I will have to make sure I brush my hair at least. He wasn't kidding that I paint late at night or early in the morning.
There will also be another project in the works so keep your eyes peeled |

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
I decided to turn this into a vintage poster style... couldn't just do a lady since it's going in our cigar lounge. I am doing a separate but coordinating style vintage ad for a really new cigar. I hope Andrew doesn't mind but I'm creating a poster using the ROXY cigar as inspiration. I have the drawings done for each one and tomorrow I start laying in the oil paints. I'm thinking nice bold colors... yellow, red, black, white and whatever else strikes me. I'm sure Scott will continue to post pictures as I progress. I have a great camera but when I'm painting I don't touch my camera.
I love hearing your thoughts and ideas so keep them coming! |

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
Looking forward to seeing these Dani! You are very creative, and talented. I get inspired everytime I see your work and then I go home and smoke a cigar instead of working on my stuff, haha. I need to find some kind of routine, I hate all the setup and tear down with oils. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more!

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
Dani, I am not sure what direction you are going with this. If it is supposed to be life like, the arms are a little T-rex like. I think the upper arm is too short maybe? Sorry, I feel bad picking things apart, part of art is the imperfections sometimes. So take what I say with a grain of salt.
A pic I found that shows the face good, I think you are trying to do it a little different though? The lips are much smaller in the pic below, and the face is not as long. I find the top image far more attractive than the second.

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
The arms are a bit T-rex like... I felt that too. I'll try moving the eye over a bit.
Thanks! It's harder for me to see what needs to change after looking at it so long... |

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
There are so many different images from LGC it makes it hard to tell what to do.
I think the second pic is good for the arm reference and the first pic is better for the face.

Re: La Gloria Cubana - Painting Progress
you might try using a grid system to transfer the image. OTOH you can trace it. There is no shame in that- LOTS and LOTS of top level amateur artists do it. If you have trouble seeing where you are going wrong, turn the drawing and reference image upside down.

I refuse to trace. That's cheating I'm playing with it now...

Actually, if you look at the original, "she" kinda has an adam's apple. We figured her name was SAM-antha.
