Belize anyone ?
My wife and I have been looking at property in Belize. Looking in the Corozal area. Property is still very affordable there. Anyone here ever been there or know anyone who has ? Probably going to pull the trigger next week. Right now it will just be land then next year a small house. Probably just two weeks a year till I am a bit older then spend the winters there. English is the language,Stable goverment,Easy currency exchange. and most of all we will be right on the beach.Pat

Ilon speak. It can be hard to get used to at first, but then you find yourself dropping into it as well.
Hope the purchase goes through. Have fun with it. There is some pretty nice property in the Caicos Islands that is still relatively affordable too. It's just very isolated, for now. |

what he said, it's the pseudo-jamaican sounding english. I had a couple friends in undergrad from belize. They spoke perfect english 99% of the time, but when they were on the phone with family it was like WTF? it sounds awesome, it just took a while to figure out wtf they were saying

Re: Belize anyone ?
I just got back from Belize the other day. They are taught English and Spanish in school, but I don't think you have to go past the 6th grade (or something close to that). They grow up speaking Creole (sp?) which might as well be Latin as far as I'm concerened. I can't understand any of it. Lots of development. Beware of being too far from Belize City. That's the only real base for export/import. Anything not made by hand within a few miles of Corozal will be coming from Belize City. The farther you are the more it costs. There are a ton of empty houses for sale on the beach in Ambergis Caye and Caye Caulker. Have you been there?

mrsreindeer & I went in March for the first time & LOVED it. I don't know about property but it felt like a nifty idea although the hurricanes worry me. We went to Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker (so laid back & awesome!) and inland near Caracol. I would definitely go back and it beats Mexico hands down. It's just that a lot of folks don't it yet...which is a good and bad thing. Definitely affordable paradise so good luck to you! |
