Default Computer specs

Alright - so I just ordered a new round of computer upgrades (wooooo nerd weekend!). I was seraching for a computer specs thread - but can't find one with the search feature. I'm assuming most of the folks in here with nice rigs probably use them for gaming, so putting this in the entertainment section made the most sense.

Anyway...SPEC TIME!

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3Ghz Unlocked LGA1155 CPU (recent upgrade)
Video Cards: 2x Galaxy GeForce GTS 450 Super OC 1GB GDDR5 PCIe - Run in SLI mode
MOBO: MSI P67A-GD53 B3 Intel P67 LGA1155 Motherboard (recent upgrade)
RAM: 4x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz (recent upgrade)
Operating System Hard Drive: OCZ 120GB SSD SataII (recent upgrade)
Case: AZZA Helios 910 (recent upgrade)
Power Supply: XION Supernova Lan Party Ed. 1000w Sli

Any other tech nerds out there? Show me whatchu got!

PS - I blew my fun budget for the month of September before September even got here

Sick rig, Alex!!!

Here's mine.
That was my list, it's what I ultimately ordered and built. I daisy-chained the dual psu's, and since then I added another identical bluray burner.
I'm not happy with the 300GB boot hdd I'm using, I'll change it someday.

Awesome. IIRC you use yours for 3d modeling and such, right?

I saw my buddy's solid-state drive a few months ago and have been fawning after it ever since. He was into windows 7 in under 20 seconds. Made my heart pitter-patter

Hey Scott, how does Windows run on six cores? Don't you need a license for each core?

So all of my newly ordered parts are out for delivery today.

...Except for my case. DANG IT!

In regards to Windows on multiple core - no additional licenses are needed or required. Each core doesn't run its own copy of Windows. Each core will have separate computations that they perform, but any one core can't necessarily operate outside of the other cores. (At least that's my understanding of it - each processing core needs the other cores)

Just something I remember from years ago on SMP boards that each CPU needed a license in order to unlock the multi-processing. Otherwise it just ran as a single processor system. Muliti-core is like multi-processor so I wasn't sure about this, besides it being commonplace now.

The easiest way to see is open task manager and go to the performance tab. under "CPU Usage History" see how many graphs it shows. I am at work, so I can't guarantee that they haven't bought additional licenses...but I show 4 seperate CPU cores.

If it's a multi-core supported OS, then that's it. No additional licenses are needed. I am not sure which flavor of Win7 supports multi-core, but I think Professional at a minimum does.

My case came in today. Removing the hard drives, PSU, graphics cards, and CD rom from my old computer made me feel more nostalgic than when I graduated from college or high school.
