Default who'd a thunk

that pouring salt water through your sinuses could feel so good.

I have both types of neti pots (the squeeze bottle and the mini tea pot) but I think that the gravity flow (tea pot) one is my fave. I had no idea that you could go through entire winters without blinding sinus headaches until I started using this last year.

Another great thing is while taking a hot shower, let the water force down your nose. Amazing how much that helps clear things up.
Takes a bit of getting use to.

The SinusRinse and Neti Pots are what is being talked about in this thread.

They work quite well, since I started using the SinusRinse bottle about two-three years or so ago, my consumption of zyrtec, allerclear and sudafed (the real stuff, the one you have to give a drivers license for) consumption has dwindled down to less than a dozen tablets per year in total. I used to need to take zyrtec /allerclear for months at a time during pollen seasons.

I'm going to have to research this stuff more. I believe I've been suffering from sinusitis for the last 5 weeks. Didn't start off that way, but has progressed into all of the symptoms.

Salt water in your sinuses? Sounds like it would burn a lot.

Nah - the saline solution is made by using a pre-measured packet containing a salt and a buffering agent. It's not _that_ salty, plus the buffering agent helps quite a bit and the packets probably contain less than a teaspoon of compound (probably closer to about a half-teaspoon), so it's not like the mound of table salt in a cup of water like you would use for gargling.

It might be a bit uncomfortable the first time or two you use it, but that's probably due more to not being used to forcing 8oz of water up into and through your sinus cavity than anything else.

Even when you double the packs up it doesn't burn. Maybe a tiny tingle, but thats about it.

THOSE THINGS ARE A MIRACLE FOR MY ALLERGIES. I cannot shout any louder than that. For real, if you suffer from outdoor allergies, these are great to use to rinse out your sinuses daily. The idea sounds strange but there is no discomfort at all. just remember to keep you mouth open and breath normally through your mouth or you'll create a vacuum and the fluid won't flow.

I have great big humidifiers. They get the job done. If not for them, I'd be miserable all winter.

It's really cool when you do over one of those surface mounted deco bowl sinks made out of glass, you can see the shadow of the stuff on the counter as it swirls down the drain...
