Decided on Cancun
Wife and I decided on staying in Cancun. Now we just need to find a NICE resort with calm beaches. What's the recommendation? Also are all the popular restaurants like Seņor Frogs, etc located in the downtown or on the beach strip? Any other and all information would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

Re: Decided on Cancun
Seņor Frogs is in what I believe they consider the downtown area....there are buses running constantly from the resorts to the downtown...cheap.
I recommend the fish tacos at Carlos & Charlies, and the mojitos at the LCdH.

The deck on the back of LCdH was very relaxing and the mojitos were to die for. Went to Lorenzillo's for a nice dinner great seafood. If you get a chance to see the ruins Nohoch Mul in Coba is the best. You are able to still climb it.

Re: Decided on Cancun
The "beach strip" doesn't have much in terms of restaurants and shopping. It's mostly just hotels/resorts. All of the popular restaurants are by the mall area. There is a large flea market across the street from the mall. Buses are cheap, and probably the most efficient way of getting around.
Places like Senor Frogs and Carlos and Charlies and Daddy O's all have nightly all-you-can drink specials. It was like $18 for the night last time I was there, but that was years ago. |

Re: Decided on Cancun
The LCdH is across the street from the police station. Kinda funny. There is a stop pretty close. Just tell alto and they will pull over. I am not able to help you out as to where to stay. We stayed in a friend's time share.

I haven't been there since 1991, I am sure its all changed in the last 20 years though. But Isla Mujeres was a fun boat ride! All you can drink on the way over and back We went to Chichen Itza and Tulum for our 'Ruins' trips. I can't even remember what hotel we stayed at, it was still unfinished at the time, with only 1 of the 4 main buildings complete. The main building looked like a Mayan Pyramid and each of the 4 other buildings containing rooms were smaller, long versions of it. We stayed in 'Fozzy Uno' as it sounded to us. Phase one. The place where the movie 'The Blue Lagoon' filmed wasn't too far away either, snorkeling, swimming, diving, etc etc. But I spent all my time at the bar there as well Have fun and thanks for helping me remember a fun trip, at least parts of it that I can remember!

Turns out we both got misinformed, imdb and wikipedia say it was shot in Fiji. It made me smile when I saw you say that, anyways. I almost went on that tour just because of that. Really.

Tourists are suckers I spose. We had a blast there, the wife (ex now) and kid went snorkeling and I made FULL use of the bar. So maybe the Blue Lagoon wasn't filmed there, but it was pretty darned nice

Re: Decided on Cancun
Good morning Erick,
The downtown area is where City Hall and the locals live. The hotel zone is where the hotels, nightclubs and most touristy places are located. As for hotels there is such a wide variety from The Ritz Carlton and Intercontinental at 300$ usd + a night to the 5 star RUI at 180$ usd and more economical places can be found for around 90$ usd on the net. Eating - I wish there was a Cheesecake Factory but no luck yet! I highly recommend Cambalache (Argentinian Steakhouse) and for your taco stands you need to head to downtown and eat at La Placita or maybe Los Primos if you are more adventurous (try a Michelada). LCDH is well worth the trip and Cohiba Atmosphere is temporarily closed and scheduled to re-open in August. Best of luck and safe travels! Respectfully, Travis Posted via Mobile Device |

If you can go to Isla Mujeres, the Naval PX has Don Julio for $15 USD for instance. Tequila is for sure cheaper in Mexico.

You're right about that moses - McDonald's, BK, KFC, Rainforest, Cajun Chicken and too many others to mention!
Erick - Give me a shout when you know the dates - work makes it tough for me, I am still trying to catch up with Mikes in Cozumel but would like to try a lunchtime cigar at LCDH or CA. Posted via Mobile Device |
