Question Where to Buy Humidifier Wicks for Aristocrat?

I need a wick for my humidifing element in an Aristocrat. I am not sure which model it is, but the wick is 4.25" tall.

I think the model I have is an "M", two doors 30" wide...

Would like to get them for cheap, as there's nothing to it and just buy a bunch of them.

I was thinking more like 20 for $60.

There's nothing to them... Besides Bob, has anyone bought these in bulk?

I mean really. Most don't pay $9 for an oil filter.

Moses, the company Bob originally used for the Set N Forget system is in Massachusetts, called Habitat Monitor. He has the wicks for $7.50 ea or four for $25 (plus a few dollars for shipping).

I can dig that up. I think it has their address on the owner's manual. I think they are in Hamilton or something...

Do I sense a group buy? You have the same size wick...

Does the wick look something like this?

That's just a centrifugal humidifier wick. Nothing special about it. They come in probably a few hundred different diameter & height combinations. It's just frickin' paper, it can't cost much in bulk from the manufacturer/distro end.

Try online for bulk or wal-mart in the pharmacy section for singles to three packs. Find the area where they have humidifiers, I noticed some replacement wicks there the other day. If the design of the water tank & fans in your humidification system is similar to the Habitat Monitor HMII that I have, the diameter of the wick isn't critical, just as long as it's within a half-inch to inch or so, it should be fine. They also had some rather tall ones that could easily be cut down into two wicks.

Interesting thread I've been looking for a more cost effective wick for my Aristocrat MTX Plus It takes 4 wicks and I'd like to change them every 3-5 months.

If you look at the wicks you can get directly from Bob it looks like they are cut from a sheet and glued. As mentioned their is not much to them.

Do all the Aristocrat humidifiers use wicks or only the newer clear units? I have the old school large grey rectangle and was wondering if there is anything I need to do other than adding water. Thanks

Large grey rectangle with a fan on top and possibly slots on the sides?

If so, that's the same water tank as what the old habitat monitors used to use (which is what I have). Yes, you need to take the four corner screws out and change the wick periodically - once per year is the recommended interval I believe.

Yup. That's the one. I gues I will be ordering some wicks also.
Thank you very much

Ended up paying 4 for $25.00.

Looks as someone mentioned like they are just cut and glued.

Do I want the wick under the fan, away, or does it even matter?

The wicks are cut & glued to fit each specific size humidifier. As far as I have been able to determine there is no "off the shelf" circular wick that comes in the correct diameter & height--either too big, too small, etc. I buy the raw wick material from the same guys who make 90% of the wicks you find in Walmart, Target, etc. They unfortunately wanted a minimum order of 10,000 before it is cost effective to set up a run for the sizes I need.

The wicks are designed to encircle the fan, with the top of the wick just touching the top of the humidifier to force all the air through the wick for max efficiency.

The older gray humidifier & the new 1.0qt clear top use the same wick. It's also the same size as the medium & medum large wicks from Habitat Monitor.

The taller 1.5 clear top is substantially taller than the gray or 1.0. The 1.5 clear top is used in all Aristocrats except the MINI or End Table. The taller wicks from Habitat are likely to be slightly shorter than the ones we make & may not kiss the top of the humidifier. Should still work though-perhaps not quite as efficient if there is a top gap.

For those who want to make their own wicks--Walmart carries a wick with the order number WF-1. Just fold over & cut it in half lengthwise & cut the width to the required height for your humidifier. Use staples to hold the edges & hot glue them together. Remove the staples or they will rust out in a few days and make a mess.

One will get two wicks per box. No idea what the WF-1 cost these days, but Walmart buys a lot more than 10,000 at a time. My guys will thank you if you make your own wicks--they are wood workers-I hear nothing but moans & groans every time they burn their fingers on the hot glue.

cheers,
Bob Staebell

I did a little poking around walmart. I wasn't able to find the WF-1 that Bob mentioned but they did have a universal wick for 9.00 that has a carbon layer and is treated with baking soda. I wasn't sure If that would do any harm so I skipped picking it up.

I was able to get a regular one from a friend that was the exact same size as the universal walmart wick and was able to cut 4 wicks the size I needed out of it. Instead of hot glue I used zip ties to hold it together which is what the showed on the box at walmart. Took me 5 mins to do. If the treated one for 9.00 bucks would work that a pretty good deal for 4 wicks.

Anyone know if the treated one would have any adverse effects it's a sunbeam SFU003 if you want to take a look at it at walmart.
