Default Paging Mr Moo

Mr Moo,

What the heck is that springy thing that just popped out of my portafilter under the basket after I cleaned it and doesn't seem to fit back properly?

Spare parts???

Never mind, WLL said it hold the portafilter in place when you are knocking out the puck.

Some leave them out altogether for weighting the grinds.

I would have said, "Stick the basket back in the handle and squish it back into the groove. It's a the retention clip thingie that keeps the basket from falling out when you smack it on the knockbox." That's what I would have said.

Either that or pieces of your espresso machine are already falling out.

(I heard Car Talk on the radio the other day and Ray (or Tom) said that if you take your VW carburator apart and put it back together enough, sooner or later you end up with two carburators. It's the same with espresso machines. I have one on the counter and I think I have another one spread out in two or three drawers, in some baskets on the shelf and in my toolbox in the garage. )

Enjoy your new brewer, guy. I hope it gives you a lifetime of great performance, great coffee and great pleasure.
