Looking for a good protein bar
In my efforts to lose weight, I've substituted breakfast and lunch with protein bars bought at the grocery store. My favorite had 23g protein and was a strawberry cheescake flavor. I can't remember the name of it and it was almost 4 bucks! I'm looking for a good, online source to buy some of these in bulk to save some money. What's your favorite and where do you get them?
Thanks! MCS

Re: Looking for a good protein bar
Watch out, most of those protien bars are packed with sugar.
I like the Think Thin bars: http://www.thinkproducts.com/thin-bars.php They are high in protein, taste good and are sugar free (sugar alcohol only). OH and as for where - I get them at Wegmans. They come in well under $2 each. They are around $16 for 10 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/thinkThin-Chun.../dp/B000CRHQN0 The PB is really good, as is the Chocolate Fudge.

Most protein bars are crap Scott...owner of the supplement store by my house (he is a nutritionalist and a chemist) said you would be better off eating a bratwurst.
I know I usually crack wise, but this is serious. Most of the stuff, even the high end stuff, is complete garbage.

This may be the one you are talking about. I would also recommend some of the shakes. Syntha 6 has been good so far. One note on ordering online....it's summer and most have some kind of coating that will melt Last edited by SchizoFilly; 08-01-2009 at 01:30 AM. |

I do not eat protein bars myself and one should do some researching on the ingrediants. This is a place that I usually purchase my vitamins and supplements through online. Some of the products have an ingrediants listing to peruse as well:

Some great responses here. As always, thanks for the help. CA is a great resource for life as well as cigars.

Re: Looking for a good protein bar
I have done protein diets with success and found that some protein drinks availble are pretty good but you got to read the labels, most of them have a huge carb count too. Some of the specialty stores (vitamin shop mentioned above is probably the best one) have the better ones. I have read the labels of many protein bars and never have found any that were high prtein without being high in carbs in addition to not being to tasty.

Re: Looking for a good protein bar
I would take the advice against the protein bars as well. I love a good protein shake for breakfast or after a workout (just get some protein/whey powder at your local supplement retailer).

Re: Looking for a good protein bar
That sounds almost like a Slim Fast bar. They had a strawberry cheesecake flavor that was very tasty.

Re: Looking for a good protein bar
I HAVE to intake protein daily through some form of supplement since my surgery. This is for the rest of my life. As others have noted - stay away from the majority of protein bars - sugar coated junk marketed as health food. I asked this same question you are a little over 2 1/2 years ago - got the same answers - but found out for myself anyway.
If you must - I suggest you use a company such as this one (I used them, great service and products): Bariatric Advantage My suggestion to you would be to find a high quality protein shake that you like. I prefer ON Whey in the double chocolate mixed with low fat (2%) milk. I normally buy the large tubs - but also buy pre-mixed if I know I need to carry with me. The stuff mixes quickly with just a shaker cup - no blender needed. And lastly - instead of looking to the protein bars to substitute for your breakfast and lunch - look to change your menu, what you are eating. You will do much better simply by changing the diet, go to more smaller meals each day and feel fuller longer. Better for your health. Good luck! Ron |
